To deal with this situation, Atticus tells Uncle Jack that if they don’t pay attention to her she’ll get over this "stage". I believe it takes a lot more control to ignore the comment and continue doing what you were as opposed to punishing the child for such a minor incident. By taking this approach to the problem, it shows that Atticus took the time to assess the problem before taking any action. If she didn’t understand what it meant then there is no point in punish .....
