Hamlet: Many Interpretations
Words: 385 - Pages: 2.... obligation to kill Claudius and to do so without
delay. The question is then why does he wait so long to do so. It is
argued that if Hamlet had taken prompt action, Gertrude, Polonius, Ophelia,
Rosencrantz, Guildenstern, Laertes, and Hamlet himself may have survived.
A reason must then be drawn from one's own interpretations of Hamlet.
Following two renound interpretations of Hamlet, two major conclusions can
be made. First, Shakespeare's tragedy is a work of surpassing interest and
genius, and the tragic hero is universally attractive and fascinating.
Second, only the naive will start with the assumption that there is one
obvious in .....

Bob Roberts: Race And Color
Words: 578 - Pages: 3.... Black, brown, red, purple yellow or whatever color the person is, they will always be discriminated against. Not just because they are not the same color as white people but also because they are different.
People complain about all the violence on the television and the sexual activity on television, but they are missing the point that kids need to learn about all races for them not to grow up and be discriminatory towards people who are different. Poniewozik also says that, minorities are best represented on workplace dramas (ER, NYPD Blue), but sitcoms, which focus more on family and society, tend to be colorless, color blind or a .....

Motifs Of Birds In Macbeth
Words: 469 - Pages: 2.... mention. It is not a bird of spring, nor does it have a beautiful song. It is an omen of death and evil. Ravens are frequent fixtures in gothic literature.
The owl is discussed by the old man who talks to Ross the day after Duncan was killed. The death of Duncan is a perverted act, just as the death of the falcon is considered unnatural. "'Tis unatural/Even like the deed that's done. On Tuesday last a falcon, towering in her pride of place,/was by amousing owl hawked at and killed." The owl is a bird that typically symbolizes wisdom but in this case the mousing owl has killed a larger predator--a falcon. The mousing owl has usurpe .....

Shakespeare's Sonnets: Time And Decay
Words: 656 - Pages: 3.... that perfection only lasts for a little time. He writes, “When I consider every thing that grows holds in perfection but a little moment…” (lines 1 –2). He compares men to plants and says that they display themselves at the height of their perfection and then are slowly forgotten. In other words life is like a flower that blooms. It bursts out with beauty and then time and decay cause it to slowly wither away to old age and death. In the last couplet of the sonnet, Shakespeare gives his friend a way to win the war with time and decay and implant his beauty again. The way offers this is to be featured in his poetry. Wha .....

The Cause Of Macbeth's Ruin
Words: 1933 - Pages: 8.... the
Thane of Cawdor and king. Soon after he was told these prophesies he already
becomes eager to learn more; his eagerness is shown when he tells the witches,
"Stay you imperfect speakers, tell me more" (Act.1,Sc.3,Ln.70). Later in the
same scene Ross, a Scottish noble, presents Macbeth with the title Thane of
Cawdor and here he realized that the prophesies are true. The veracity of these
prophesies disturb Macbeth because at this point he is already filled with the
notion of being king and murder as the way of attaining that title. Macbeth
even asks himself; "why do I yield to that suggestion, whose horrid image doth
unfix my hair a .....

Hamlet: Character Traits
Words: 948 - Pages: 4.... emotions getting the better of him can be seen when he
is reminiscing his father's death. Hamlet says, "...How stand I then,/That
have father killed, a mother stained,...2". He is asking himself what kind
of a person he is if he can allow his father to be murdered and his mother
to be married so soon after his father's death to his uncle. This shows us
that he is pitying himself and is putting himself down. Yet another example
of his emotions running wild are seen in his first soliloquy:
...She married. O, most wicked speed, to post with such
dexterity to incestuous sheets! It is not, nor it cannot come to .....

King Lear: A Story Of Blindness
Words: 768 - Pages: 3.... when Gloucester is talking with Kent about his bastard son, Edmund. He does not seem to be able to understand how what he is saying affects Edmund. Gloucester tells Kent that he has an older son, “by order of law” (legitimate), and then he jokes about how Edmund “came saucily to the world before he was sent for.” When watching the play, the viewer sees Edmund’s reaction to his father’s description, and he definitely does not look happy. Even though Gloucester knows his two sons, he believes the worst of Edgar, and what Edmund says, all too easily. I would think that Gloucester would have had some previous experience wit .....
