.... conditions were really like, or how the people there managed to live. But in no way was I aware that such conditions existed in America, the so called "Land of Opportunity." It seems it was just the opposite in these ghettos. There was very little, if any for the people living here. No chance whatsoever of employment outside the ghetto, or being accepted outside it. It was their home, they were not supposed to leave it, and when they did they were eyed with hate by other people who did not want to be in their presence. I was also mortified by the extremely high amounts of child deaths in this particular ghetto. It seemed terrible that .....

When Mason Williams comes to dance with her, she describes dancing with a `nobody' like her was "as offensive to him as having to memorize Shakespeare." The narrator's school life was just as bad if not worse. She would never be sure of herself when she is called up to the blackboard. Her "hands became slippery with sweat when they were required to work the blackboard compass." She would also envision the worst case scenario, that she had her period prior to being called to the front of the class, even when impossible. .....

The one boy, Ralph, meets another boy, "Piggy". Soon after that they find the other boys . The other boys are from a British choir/academy school, and they were all wearing uniforms. The oldest was Jack Merridew, he was he was the captain of the all the boys from the academy. Then there was Maurice he was next in size in the choir. There was a very shy boy who no one really knew. This book is a strong social commentary against Socialistic and Fascist governments. The book animal farm is a strong social commentary against communistic governments. The animals in animal farm are involved in a communist system, which is where the results of everybody’ work is spread around equally. Which in theory would work, but Wells is making a point through the character Moses. He makes a statement that some will not do work and still reap the benef .....

Explaining that the savage "fulfills a structural requirement of the story: a savage counterpart to the refined European woman," and also that the biggest "difference is the one implied in the author's bestowal of human expression to the one and the withholding of it from the other."(Achebe, p.255) This lack of human expression and human characteristics is what Achebe says contributes to the overflowing amount of racism within Conrad's novella. Human expression, is one of few things that make us different from animals, along with such things as communication and reason. This of course, being that without human expression, .....

In The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain the character of Huck can be seen as a moral person who grows through his actions and experiences both on land and in the river, even though his actions might go against the set standards of society. Huck is a moral person at the beginning of the novel before he begins his journey on the river. The character of Huck can be seen as subdued in the beginning of the novel. Huck has not let out his true self and it is important to understand this point that Mark Twain tries to get across. .... it can be seen that he has a certain unfounded prejudice towards the defendant, viewing him as a liar and a piece of trash, with no supporting evidence. This prejudice most surely influences his verdict of ‘guilty’ without view of any evidence. If that is not enough, starting on page 62 begins a speech lasting 2 pages in which he spews out his views of people like the defendant: “Human life doesn’t mean as much to them as it does to us…And they are-wild animals.” is an impatient and uncaring/unconcerned person. It is made clear by viewing his lines that does not take his part on the jury seriously and o .....
