Catcher In The Rye: Holden And Reznor
Words: 1218 - Pages: 5.... his
peers, strangers, and his own mind. Throughout the song, Reznor suffers
from everything. As said in the song, "I hurt myself today, to see if I
still feel," Reznor is accounting all the suffering that he has experienced.
He tries to explain that all the terrible things that have happened to him,
all the terrible things he has seen, with a nonstop chronic beat, has made
his soul numb. He has lost track of reality and fallen into this deep hole.
Mr. Antolini, Holden's old teacher, said to him that he was headed for a
great fall. Little did he know that throughout the novel, Holden has been
falling until he reached a stopping point .....

Macbeth - An Analysis Of Lady
Words: 566 - Pages: 3.... all. Then, when Macbeth arrived, just
after she finished praying for help, she acts as if she has a heart of stone and
that Macbeth is not a man if he is afraid of killing Duncan. This is a prime
example of her deception towards him, and how she acts differently when she
is alone than when she is around him.
Another example of her being two sided is the role she talks about
playing in Duncan’s death, and the role that she actually does play in it.
There are a few times in the play, mostly when she is attempting to persuade
Macbeth into committing the murder, that she says he should just leave the
murder to her. Througho .....

Critiscisms Of My Antonia
Words: 1334 - Pages: 5.... herself, point of view about when the main character, Jim Burden, remembers specific moments in an abstract pattern in his life about his Antonia. This is so because the collection of books that make up the novel, My Antonia, is about Willa Cather; the narrator's idea of what and to what point Jim Burden remembers. Miller also states that the novel "lacks focus and abounds in irrelevancies." (Wells 1) This is due to the fact that Cather didn't provide and consistent character portrayal throughout her novel. Another critic, Kim Wells, asserts Miller's opinion on the novel. Because as he states the novel has many "variations from a theme. .....

Scarlet Letter Essay
Words: 504 - Pages: 2.... unnatural. Hester doomed herself when she married Chillingsworth, certified that doom when she committed adultery, and finalized that doom when she concealed Chillingsworth’s identity from Dimmesdale. The effects these events had were the separation from her society, her lover, her husband, her child, and her own best self. She did it all in the name of sanctity, for true love, and she paid the price. Dimmesdale was changed by the affair in a way that “ [he] grew emaciated; his voice, though still rich and sweet had a [tone] of decay.”
As a believing Puritan, Dimmesdale saw himself as “predestined” for damna .....

The Island By Gary Paulsen
Words: 408 - Pages: 2.... stick out.
He chews tobacco and spits brown gunk all over the place. He first appears
in the story to request that Wil help him get his car out of the mud. Then
Emil reappears to fix the plumbing, wrecking Wil's parents' nerves in the
process.
The atmosphere in the story is that of a small hick town in northern
Wisconsin:open, friendly, relaxed and very laid-back. It strikes me as being
very much like "cottage country" in northern
Ontario:lakes, forest, fishing, small town life. The time is the late 1980's.
The novel ends with Wil seeing that his father is watching him from
shore. Wil rows over and finds that his father is tired and sad .....

Of Mice And Men: George, Lennie, And Crooks
Words: 1511 - Pages: 6.... you again. I could get along so easy, and so nice if I didn’t have you on my tail. I could live so easy and maybe have a girl.”
George’s job is to work on a ranch “bucking grain bags bustin’ a gut.” Primarily, that is his official job, but the most important of them all is to watch his simple-minded friend, Lennie. George has to speak for Lennie, lest he slip away and give the reason why they ran out of weed. In the beginning of the book, the first impression is that George is harsh with Lennie, but in terms of the entire novel, we might say that he was, if anything, not strict enough.
George and Lennie have created a dre .....

When Jack’s troops split off from the rest of the boys it had become more of a white color a little more brittle than it had been when they first found it. By the time Piggy was killed though the conch had changed to a bleached color though, and was very brittle. When Piggy died the conch went with him it shattered into hundreds of pieces. The conch symbolizes how the civilization was drained from the boys. The more and more wild the boys got the whiter and more fragile the conch got.

REAL BOYS
Words: 1594 - Pages: 6.... mother at an unnecessarily young age. Often the result of all this is that the boys decide to be silent. They learn to suffer quietly and retreat behind the mask. This is why the boys do not express their feelings, because they are told not to. What tells them not to is the boy code. It says the men should be stoic, stable, and independent. Boys are not to share their pain or grief openly. Also this code says the boys should be daring and do risky behaviors. The most traumatizing code is the fact that boys should not express feelings which might be mistakenly as “feminine” –dependence, warmth, and empathy. This causes boys to nev .....

other characters. After their relationship has been analyzed, one can see that
the relationship between Mother and Father is one that seems to be held together
purely by sexual desire. The first reference to this is at the very beginning
of the novel. Doctorow writes, "On Sunday afternoon, after dinner, Father and
Mother went upstairs and closed the bedroom door"(p 4). Their marriage is happy
as long as they continue to have a good physical relationship. Whereas in the
beginning of the novel Mother and Father's relationship was good, by the end of
the novel "He felt it had been stup .....
