the introduction and found that the novel was based on a political matter, and I

The kids in the world of Maggie fight each other for the positions of control and power among other children. The novel opens with a scene of violence. Two different groups of boys are engaged in a bloody scuffle. Crane writes, “A very little boy stood upon a heap of gravel for the honor of Rum Alley. He was throwing stones at howling urchins from Devil’s Row who were circling madly about the heap and pelting at him” (Crane 3). Audens Dystopia - The Merchant
Words: 1459 - Pages: 6.... and bustling city of Venice. The impeccable world is the fairy-tale city of Belmont. Despite Belmont's perfection, a bit of justified hatred from Venice would ruin its innocence. (Paradise lost.) Alas, as Auden suggests, there are no utopias.
In Venice, time is of the essence. If one were to momentarily forget the real world, one would be trampled down by its massive stampede of events, bonds, et cetera constantly being made, ubiquitously in its domain. Shylock and Antonio are just one pair of culprits adding to the ultimate imperfection of Venice. However, the bond made between Shylock and Antonio sets them completely apart from the norma .....

Words: 587 - Pages: 3.... to his station he and his fellow recruits were treated
kindly. Old men patted them on their backs and young boys admired them
when they stopped for rest. This warm feeling faded when they reached the

drill day in and day out. All of the experienced soldiers told war stories
every night by the campfire. Henry could only listen because he was still
'wet behind the ears'. He felt left out and often sat alone wondering
about battle. War was like an illusion to him. He couldn't imagine people
slaughtering each other. "Aren't we too civilized to massacre ourselve .....

The Metamorphosis
Words: 1690 - Pages: 7.... appears to be a central
theme, the relationship between Gregor and his sister Grete is perhaps the most
unique. It is Grete, after all, with whom the metamorphosed Gregor has any
rapport, suggesting the Kafka intended to lend at least some significance to
their relationship. Grete's significance is found in her changing relationship
with her brother. It is Grete's changing actions, feelings, and speech toward
her brother, coupled with her accession to womanhood, that seem to parallel
Gregor's own metamorphosis. This change represents her metamorphosis form
adolescence into adulthood but at the same time it marks the final demise of .....
