The upper class, which were few in numbers, are dominant over the middle class, which is larger in numbers. Stephen Blackpool represents the working class. He is a warm- hearted man trapped in thes run down society. He feels he deserves this mediocre lifestyle. Blackpool was originally employed under Bounderby, but is fired for standing up for his beliefs. This type of behavior was totally unacceptable during the period of time as it involved imagination and independance. Bounderby portrayed himself as a self-made man, .....

There is a note of humor present in the narrative, which adds to the sense of danger that is present making deals that one does not intend to keep. Commenting on the story, Larry L. Stevens notes that "This tale,..., comically presents the results of valuing the dollar above all else." This story does a very good job of conveying a message to the reader about human values. In the story Tom is seen as a very self-centered man who cares only for himself and his own well being. He is not even phased when he discovers the remains of his wife hanging .....

(p.18) Reading books improves your grammar and vocabulary.  This was be the reason why Holden does well in his English class. I do not read much and therefore I have problems in my grammar. The family background of Holden and I are fairly similar, both of us come from opulent families.  Holden and I are both very lucky to be studying in eminent institutions. Unfortunately, Holden does not take this advantage. Boxer is a cart horse who works night and day on the windmill and for Napoleon's cause. When he hurts his hoof and is unable to work, Napoleon is uncaring and sends him off to the slaughterhouse since he is of no further use. Some of the animals come to realize what is happening and are mad at Napoleon, but Napoleon talks his way out of it by convincing the animals that they are mistaken and the hospital uses vehicles marked "slaughterhouse" to pick up injured animals. It was required that a man go to school to become a monk, and the Monk had attended school to become part of the religious order. However, he was more interested in hunting than studying. He was good to his horses, and had greyhounds as well. His friends were hunters also. The Monk even preached against ideas and traditions that called hunters unholy. The Monk used church money for his own personal use. He had a big home and a stable of horses .....

.... immense torture. It is a major coincidence that they invaded Toledo to save the falling prisoner from his death. The plot is suspenseful. It kept you on you're toes at every moment because of the ever danger of death in each paragraph. In the conflict the plot is subtle and complex as well as a struggle between and all-good hero and an all-bad villain. The prisoner is being tortured by a person that seems to be all-bad because of the suffering he inflicts on other people. The story is suspenseful because all through the reading you think he is going to die but he seems to overcome every obstacle that he comes across. The character doe .....

In For Water Like Chocolate the young woman gives birth to Tita. When she does this the baby cries “enough to fill a ten-pound sack�(pg.6). This is an example of magical realism, which allows the reader to go beyond the normal story and expand their imagination. When Tita grows up she falls in love with man named Pedro. Another time, during the night Van Helsing and Lucy stay out near the courtyard of Castle Dracula, Van Helsing makes a (Holy circle) with the Host to keep vampires out and to keep Mina safe in the (Holy circle). Another time when the Host is used as a deterrence of vampires is at the time Van Helsing and the other men are going to leave Mina alone in the house. Van Helsing touches a Host to Mina's forehead and it burns into her head since she, herself, was unclean. Another abstruction of the Christian religion would be the fact that Dracula sleeps in a .....

Ivan's friends, too, became Tolstoy's target for illusion of reality. When they went to Ivan's funeral, they thought that they “ should� or “have to� go and comfort the widow. Their real reasoning behind everything was to see who would take Ivan's position at work. Another example of illusion of reality is when Ivan is lying down in excruciating pain and his wife, daughter, and son-in-law enter. Ivan sits and watches as they ignore the pain he is enduring to argue about something as petty as opera .....
