Guilt And How It Is Handled
Words: 614 - Pages: 3.... hand, the adulteress handles the guilt by telling other people and
showing them that she feels guilty. The people forgive her after time but
Dimmesdale still feels guilty, and since time has passed can not face the
truth. A situation that creates guilt can also illustrate how people deal
with difficulty.
Guilt does not only appear in literature, but also in daily life.
A famous case is the O.J. Simpson murder trial. Whether he committed the
crime or not, O.J. has shown no signs of guilt. This can be interpreted as
meaning that he either did not commit the crime, or he did so but is hiding
the guilt. If the second situation is true, .....

Macbeth - Supernatural Theme
Words: 786 - Pages: 3.... him closer to insanity.
Macbeth has changed dramatically as a character throughout the play. Macbeth was tortured with remorse after Duncan’s murder but upon hearing of Banquo’s successful assassination he is elated. His vaulting ambition was driving him to extreme measures and he could do nothing to abate it. Macbeth had risked his life to attain the throne and he had no choice but to employ Machiavellian practices to retain it. The appearance of Banquo’s ghost at the royal banquet horrifies Macbeth. Shakespeare brilliantly uses irony to make Banquo’s emergence very dramatic:
Macbeth: Fail not our feast.
Banquo: My lord, I .....

Words: 740 - Pages: 3.... set of porch windows that were quite expensive. With a slight
aiming misalignment we broke a window and had to confess to my neighbor and give
her our apologies. Pip, however, had the guilt weighed on his conscience
forever-he did not have the courage to tell Mrs. Joe that he had taken a pork
pie that was for Christmas dinner. Mrs. Joe only made it harder for Pip when
she asked, "And were the deuce ha' you been?" (page 20). Pip had to make a
moral judgment about whether or not to tell the truth about what he did and is
challenged with many more of these decisions throughout the book.
Pip was later introduced to Estella, Ms. Havisham's ad .....

been generalizing all the young soldiers into one. Although he does tell
the reader his name, Henry Flemming, he u .....

The Adventures Of Huckleberry Finn: Twain's Development Of The Theme
Words: 623 - Pages: 3.... and I couldn't stand it.
I was all over welts"(24). The way that Pap treats Huck shows the
inhumanity of man toward other men and helps to develop the major theme of
the novel.
The dishonesty of the King and the Duke toward the Wilkes girls
also help to develop the major theme of the novel. The Duke and the King
take their cruelty to another level because they steal and lie to the
Wilkes girls, who are left all alone with no parents.

Lord Of The Flies: The Setting
Words: 428 - Pages: 2.... to make.
Golding also made the setting on an island because he wants the
children to create their own culture and society. It will show their own
type of government on the island and will give responsibilities to each of
the characters. The type of government will shape their behaviors and the
respect from the others. Their rules of civilization change the way people
feel about each other. For example, Jack does not like Ralph because Ralph
is the leader of the group and makes the decisions, but Jack doesn't like
the way Ralph leads them.
Another reason Golding put the setting on an island is that the
environment is d .....

Words: 420 - Pages: 2.... being chosen the reader knows it is no longer a positive situation. Then irony strikes when the other villagers stone Tessie to death. The title is ironic because when one thinks of a lottery it is looked on as an amusement to test one’s luck in order to win a prize.

Updike goes into great detail to contrast the young girls with the fifty-year-old woman. He describes the older woman as having rouge on her cheekbones and no eyebrows. The young girls are all given nubile qualities, which are described by the character of Sammy using references to food. The first girl to catch his eye is a chunky girl with a sweet can and two crescents of white just underneath it. The second girl is described as having a chubby be .....
