Despite his popularity among the crew and his hardworking attitude, Billy is transferred to another British ship, the Indomitable. Almost everything is symbolic in the Romantic wold. Romantics rely on their strong sense of intuition because they believe that there are things that lie beyond the senses. The Scarlet Letter is written in the Romantic style. It contains many elements that are vital to the Romantics. It is full of symbolism. For example, by the end of the story, how many different ways could the letter "A" be interpreted? What about the lot described in the beginning? Was Pearl Hesters chil .....

Ona becomes worried that they are not going have enough money, but Jurgis simply replies by saying “I will work harder�. The story then flashbacks to how the two first met. Jurgis met Ona at a horse fair, and they fell in love. They were too poor to have a wedding because Ona’s father had died. In hopes of finding freedom and fortune, they left for America, bringing several members of Ona’s family with them. As soon as Jurgis and his family arrive in America they are faced with a problem. They do not speak English and get lost. .....

She also finally found out that most people were nice. She just had to put herself in those people's situations. "As I made my way home, I thought Jem and I would get grown but there wasn't much else left for us to learn, except possibly algebra." This statement showed that she understood the prejudice and people's thinking at last. That would make her life a lot different. Jem was Scout's brother. He was a little older than Scout. .... was definitely not someone that you could depend on. Holden’s actions were also peculiar. He would always act like a tough guy but he really was very scared. The incident with Maurice the pimp and Sunny the Prostitute is one example. He is very nervous about having a prostitute but he tries to act normal about it. From the time Maurice asks him if he’s “innarested in a little tail t’night?â€�(91) he feels uncomfortable but he still gets the prostitute. He then tries to act tough when Maurice is asking for five more dollars for the prostitute but Holden, unfortunately, as the prostitute takes five more dollars from his wallet â .....

.... and just belief, and yet we allow them in all schools. To Kill a Mockingbird is spoken through the eyes of a seven year old who comes to the conclusion through the trial of Tom Robinson that racism is unjust. As the story progresses you learn the hate put onto a man solely due to his color. Through a wise, just, man, Atticus, you learn that hate should never be brought onto anyone. Prejudice is another example in which hate should not be brought forth in. To Kill a Mockingbird demonstrates prejudice through Boo Radley. Boo shows us that thoughts can be brought onto a person, just because they are different. People believe that he is a .....

.... race. Hate without reasoning. He feels it is wrong what the adults are doing to the children. They are being brought up to believe that it is OK to mistreat somebody who is "different" from you. This is why Joshua felt he should teach the children, and not the adults. Once Joshua started to communicate with the children, and got to know them better the adults were amazed at how Joshua related to the children so well. He knew their names right from the second he met them, he played their games, and he even let himself lose at them too. Eventually the adults in the town began to realize that whoever this Joshua really was, he was .....

While the game may have only lasted for two weeks for a couple of hours each night, it didn't stop them from playing in spite of all the work that had to be done (81). The tournament is significant to the book in that it illustrates the another aspect of their lives that Smiley left out. The infamous monopoly tournament between Ginny, Ty, Rose, Pete, and Jess went beyond a mere harmless board game played to pass the time and fill pages of the book. Beneath the seemingly innocent game lays the symbolism and significance Smiley used to describe .....

.... But I rubbed it [The ‘fuck you' written on the wall] out anyway." Another example is on page two hundred and eight, "'So shut up.' It was the first time she [Phoebe] ever told me to shut up. It sounded terrible. God, it sounded terrible. It sounded worse than swearing." There is one more outstanding quotation from the novel which is found on page two hundred and thirteen. "I felt so damn happy all of a sudden, the way old Phoebe was going around and around [the carousel]." All these examples clearly show that Holden appreciated "childhood innocence" to a great extent. Yet Holden acts the opposite. The irony in this novel is Holden's b .....

.... Col. Kurtz’s little army attacks Capt. Willard’s patrol boat while similarly Kurtz sends his band of natives to assault Marlow and his crew. Finally, the Russian in Conrad’s novel, and the photographer as portrayed by Dennis Hopper in Apocalypse Now bear a striking likeness in not only their physical appearance, but there state of mind as well. However, Dorall continues deeper into abyss of interrupting these two novels by pointing out subtle variances. He first mentions the fact that the characters on the riverboat in the novel lack the depth and development of a true character. On the other hand, the film takes time and effort .....
