.... being yelled at Lennie says, “I pinched their heads a little and then they was dead- because they were so little (13).� Lennie’s remorse is probably more for upsetting George than it is for actually killing the animal. Another way that death and loss is evidenced by this novel is when Lennie killed Curley’s wife. When Lennie is in the barn (after killing his new puppy) Curley’s wife came into the barn and came on to Lennie. Lennie not knowing what was happening let her lull him into touching her hair. To Lennie it was like petting any other animal. Curley’s wife became flustered when Lennie became scared and would not let go of .....

"Adolf Myers walked into the evening or had sat talking until dusk upon the school steps lost in a dream."(p. 884) "In a way the voice and hands, the stroking of shoulders and the touching of hair were a part of the school Master's effort to carry a dream into the young minds."(p. 884) This is a man that was run out of a town for something that was not a bad thing. Nor was this something intended the wrong way. Mr. Myers did touch only to pass on something great, a dream. Mr. Myers was run from a town. "They intended to hang the school master."(p. .....

.... and cynical after the death of his father, whom he greatly admired, and the hasty remarriage of his mother to his uncle. Hamlet thinks his father was an "excellent king," who loved his mother so much "that he may might not beteem the winds of heaven/ Visit her face to roughly" (I, ii, 140-141). However, his mother mourned for "a little month" and then she married a man who was "no more like [his] father/ Than [he] to Hercules" (I, ii, 153-152). These extraordinary events cause him to launch into a state of melancholy and depression in which he desires "that this too too solid flesh would melt" (I, ii, 129). Montresor takes him to his catacombs and leads him down to where the pipe is supposed to be. As they are walking, you notice more foreshadowing to the death of Fortunato when he say’s, “ the cough is a mere nothing; it will not kill me. I shall not die of a cough,� and Montresor replies, “ True – true,“ (11800). But unlike his name suggests, Fortunato is not so fortunate. He does not realize that he is walking towards his own death, and example of dramatic irony. While Fortunato is drunk, he gives .....

Jean Valjean, an ex-convict who had been on the run from the authority most of his life, took Cosette into his own hands by request of Fantine before she died. Before he had Cosette in his custody, he had already change his name to Monsieur Madeleine. This character name change got me off track at a point in the story. However, in the end it all came together to show how desperate he tried to get away from his past. Hugo had a good way of showing the emotions of the characters; not only by deep description , but by how they strive to live a normal life. .....

.... Ewell. Bob Ewell is Mayella's father. He is out for revenge on Atticus for what he did to him and his daughter. Mayella is Bob's daughter who supposedly got raped by Tom Robinson. Judge Taylor is the Judge of Maycomb County. Heck Tate is the county law official. Atticus tells his children: "I prefer you shoot tin cans, but I know you'll wanna shoot birds, if you can hit 'em. Shoot all the Blue Jays you want, but never shoot a Mockingbird. All they do for us is sing their hearts out for us. Remember it's a sin to kill a Mockingbird". The Mockingbirds in this story are Boo Radley and Tom Robinson. Mr. Radley is a mystery man and scary. .....

Readers are meant to examine Jane's life, especially the manner in which she handles problems or confrontations in her relationships, and to follow her example in their own lives. Just as we see Jane as a model of a woman successful in asserting her self-worth, we are also given a warning about the possible outcome of failure to realize self-worth in Bertha Rochester. This facet will also be discussed briefly. Bronte uses the motivation of personal experiences to create the life of Jane Eyre in which we see the quest for social betterment through her relationship .....

When they arrive at the island they find Long Arrow and nine other Indians in a cave in which they were trapped. Another tribe on the other side of the island wanted to go to war with the peaceful Indians that had taken in the doctor and his crew. Polynesia brought millions of black parrots from South America to fight for the pea .....

.... who joined them on their journey. Fran is disturbed by her dreams, as all of them are by their own. She dreams of an old lady named Abigail, in Colorado. This lady is kind and loving and promises to protect them from the evil. In the dreams there is also a "Dark Man". He is always there lurking, waiting to attack. Harold admits to himself that he is in love with Fran and goes crazy when he realizes how serious Fran has become with Stuart Redman, one of the newcomers to their traveling group. Harold becomes insanely jealous and plots to separate them, even if it means murder. Harold doesn't admit it to any of them, but his dreams are .....

Many times there were cases of large unknown animals at Costa Rica, but no one found out what they actually were or where they had come from. A rich scientist named Dr. Richard Levine performed research on some of these animals and found some clues which led him to the lost island. He set out on a test expedition with his colleague to find out exactly if he was on the right island. He missed his boat back home to the states. So, he called his friend, Dr. Thorne with his satellite phone and left a message asking him to come down to the island and get on with the expedition. .....
