Against her husband’s request, Mrs. Reed does not treat Jane like a human being and is constantly criticizing and punishing her. John then grabbed the book and threw it at her knocking her down and cutting her on the head, which bled and was very painful. She keeps the family together when they want to split up. The first time that this was showed in the book when they pulled over to help the Wilsons with the car. Tom suggested that him and Casey stay and fix the car while the rest of the family go's on to Bakersfield and that they would meet them there. Ma then let out her fury, she held up a tire iron and demanded that they all stick together and that they will go to Bakersfield together. Ma is also very smart. Her common sense .....

Furthermore, he has been raised in a strict Presbyterian household that has encouraged him to feel guilty about almost every lapse of duty. I was hoping for a surprise of some sort, and it never came. However, I noted many strengths. The descriptive details seem great. Although the details appear rather gross at points, I think that is a good thing. Elizabeth is tied to Wickham by her intellectual commitment to objectivity, which translates into superficial bindings. Not at all silly like her ditzy sisters, Elizabeth is simply disengaged and she wishes to see and understand excitement. She finds her wish in Wickham, who provides her with a strange tale that is both shocking and appealing to Elizabeth. Elizabeth perceptiveness fails her in the situation with her friend C .....

There is a tremendous irony to this promise because when Goodman Brown comes back at dawn; he can no longer look at his wife with the same faith he had before. When Goodman Brown finally meets with the Devil, he declares that the reason he was late was because "Faith kept me back awhile." This statement has a double meaning because his wife physically prevented him from being on time for his meeting with the devil, but his faith to God i ps .....
