Moving to the States has not been easy. I have not only encountered
cultural differences, but a lot of difference in the educational system as well.
But my goal to major in Chemistry still remains unchanged, and my options have
widened. Last year, I learned about the Center for Science Excellence in one of
my Chemistry classes, but I wasn’t aware of the many advantages and rewards of
being part of such a remarkable program.
As a newcomer, I have made numerous mistakes in choosing my courses and
I need a lot of good advice and guidance. The Center for Science Excellence is

Nowhere, Kansas
Words: 694 - Pages: 3.... blocks long, and that’s where we were, waiting for the outcome.
A middle-aged, tall man with dark hair, and a thin mustache walked by us, as to get our attention. This skinny man with his apron tied around his small waste started to bustle around picking up a few boxes, “Sorry about the mess,” he replied, in a strong southern accent “just a few days ago we met head on with a twister.”
I looked at my cousin with a slight smirk on my face. I knew we were thinking the same thing, “that was rather ironic.” I turned to the worker and replied, “it was no inconvenience to us.”
We continued to walk into the store and found th .....

Problems With A Happy Ending
Words: 326 - Pages: 2.... However, they were troublemakers who tried
to involve me with their misdeeds. I always managed to escape, being the
innocent one, until now. They had convinced me to take my first cigarette and
policemen nearby caught us. I could not escape because of the cigarette's strong
smell. It was a small offence to my friends, a big one to my parents and an eye
opener for me.
My father was raged, my mother was crying, and I saw that they actually
cared about my doings. They were concerned for me after all. With a hint of
tears in his eyes, my father turned to my weeping figure and asked once again,
in a warm voice, "Why did you do it?" As .....

The Man In The Park
Words: 791 - Pages: 3.... of cornflowers. Navy and dirty white canvas sneakers adorned his feet. His white sock could be seen through a gaping hole in the sole. These shoes had taken him to many different places. They were like an old friend that he couldn’t say goodbye to.
On this particular day the sun was shining down, warming the earth and lake, so many children played on the wooden swing set. From where I stood on the path, I could hear their cheerful shouts, but could not see them. What I could see was the old man’s face. He had strong features: a broad nose, deep-set eyes, and pronounced cheekbones. They had all sunken into a deep sea of wrinkl .....

Bosses are probably the most difficult part of being employed to me. At the grocery store that I worked at for a short period of time, I remember being constantly pulled aside and being told that I wasn’t bagging the groceries properly. The strange part was that when my boss would tell me these things he would always take me to isle seven to yell and scream at me. Why couldn’t he take me into his office where it would be private? Instead he would make a big scene in front of all the .....

humid air and pushed a breeze downward over the passenger compartment.
Soon, we circled the landing zone. The LZ looked cold. There's only one way
to find out if it is really cold, I thought as I double checked my M16. If no
one zapped us when we entered, it was cold. If they did, it wasn't.
"Lock and load," I yelled.
The helicopter circled low and slowed down until it almost hovered four feet
from the ground. The door gunner mashed the spade grips on his .30 caliber M60
machine gun. The gun spewed bullets over the field below us.
It was time to jump off the skids while we skimmed above the surface of the

Creative Writing: The Snickers Bar

covered peanuts and caramel were very tantalizing.
Then we were allowed to open the wrapper. I opened it, careful not
to rip the wrapper. The second it was uncovered, the sweet smell got
stronger. That chocolate and caramel aroma was now increased with the
glorious smell of roasted peanuts. Oh! How I longed to taste that
tempting Snickers bar. The top of the bar itself looked like an ocean
wave just before it crashes onto the beach. It was a perfect picture,
frozen in time. It felt smooth, yet gooey at the same time.
Then I heard those magical words. "you may now take your first

Personal Writing: My Vacation At Beech Mountain, North Carolina
Words: 1009 - Pages: 4.... in the majestic sights the mountains have to offer gives me such a refreshed feeling—sometimes city life can leave one with a cold emptiness. Hiking through unmarked paths makes me curious to explore the new territory. I often think of Robert Frost’s “The Road Less Traveled” when passing through these sections.
Sometimes I sit and observe all of nature’s critters at work: rabbits digging, squirrels playing, and birds chirping. I also enjoy the wonderful views nature has to give. It is absolutely breathtaking: the colors of the flowers in the springtime. Bright yellows, warm reds, soft blues and hushed purples paint the mount .....
