Words: 509 - Pages: 2.... like an atomic pile, something heard about but never
seen"(p145) This sentence lets people relate with the point that author is
trying to get across to the reader. The reader now has a mental reference
or link to what is being described so he can now better understand what he
is reading. This stylistic device is used effectively in this essay.
"Knowledge spills over like a water from a seemingly inexhaustible
fountain."(p146) This is a good use of imagery. By applying this
description of endless knowledge to a fountain or waterfall the reader can
make a mental picture better allowing him to comprehend exactly what the

Hamlet, Act 1 Scene 1
Words: 1039 - Pages: 4.... of the scene, the reader is aware of the atmosphere of mistrust and uncertainty lingering in the air. When the reader is first introduced to the main characters outside the castle, they are suspiciously asking each other to identify themselves. Everyone seems to be on edge from the start, as if anticipating something. Another factor that reveals a mood of wariness and caution is how the night is dark, the air is chilling, and the characters speak of "the bitter cold," (p. 9, ln.8). This evokes a mood of foreboding and mystery. At one point, Fransisco ends his watch thankfully because, "he is sick at heart," (p.9, Ln. 10). Shortly after .....

Surprisingly, in The Crucible, the main character, John Proctor, has sacrificed his life to maintain his good reputation in Salem. Ring Of Time
Words: 522 - Pages: 2.... see a connection between the girl and her act. This brings about the author’s central idea of a cyclical view of time.
White suggests that time is circular, and that is goes round and round repeating itself. The images of rings and circles throughout the first few paragraphs support this. He describes the girl’s gaze as "circular", and "time itself began running in circles" as she took her horse around the circus ring. However, time itself is a constantly changing quantity with everything around it changing also. White realizes this and states, "She will never be this beautiful again". This youn .....

Design By Robert Frost An Exam
Words: 936 - Pages: 4.... associated with dirty and devilish acts. By portreying the spider as white it comes into a whole new perspective, and you begin to think that maybe the spider isn’t so bad after all.
In the second part of the first stanza Frost describes a witches brew with all the ingredients being white. Witches have traditionally been ugly people wearing all black, the color that represents darkness and death. By saying that the white spider and the dead moth are like ingredients of a witches brew is actually putting those two objects on a lower level of existence. Ingredients in witch’s brew are usually despicable items that are not wort .....

Lord and Mephistopheles thrown into the mix just to complicate things.
This is a journey that sees Mephistopheles try a backwards attempt at
showing the ever cynical Faust that there is a reason to keep on living.
As it is now, Faust believes that his life is miserable and that being a
part of humanity can only hinder his thirst for knowledge.

First batter this present world to rubble,
Then the other may rise — if that's the plan.
This earth is where my springs of joy have started,
And this sun shines on me when brokenhearted;
If I can .....

The Evolution Of British Poetr
Words: 905 - Pages: 4.... deeply rooted in universal truth. These poems were often about the quest for love and its brutal “slap in the face” attitude. With the Elizabethan style of poetry, we see a serious side to British poetry.
The serious side to the Elizabethan era gave birth to an entirely new way of writing poetry. The Neoclassical era was a time of reason and though. It was more formal than the love induced poetry of the Elizabethan era. Neoclassical poets loved the classic form of literature with its strict regimen and form. The change between these two forms could be defined as a rebellion of sorts.

Macbeth - Manipulation
Words: 963 - Pages: 4.... Macbeth’s thoughts and feelings are visible in her thoughts "Thou wouldst be great, Art not without ambition, but without the illness should attend it." (1.5.19-21). From the very same speech and small implications from the letter, we can tell that Macbeth was ambitious enough to want to be the King, but would not think of murdering Duncan. Because Lady Macbeth knew this, she also knew that she would have to push Macbeth into performing the deed and she starts by telling him "Thy letters have transported me beyond this ignorant present and I feel now the future in the present" (1.5.57-59) the moment they meet. From Macb .....
