He cared for no one and wanted no to care for him. Both of their attitudes changed when Eppie arrived. Godfrey knew that he could marry Nancy now beacuse his old wife had died. This also showed how shallow he was. Godfrey thought he could throw money at Silas and he would be very compliant to give Eppie back to her ‘rightful’ father. Yet at the final moments of ths confrontation Eppie’s arrival unleashed a side of Silas not seen for fifteen yea .....

.... that Roger Pfingston wrote this story from his heart. I was able to put myself in Brian’s place and actually feel how I thought he would feel. The story that stretched my imagination the most was “Charles” by Shirley Jackson. Even though children have wild imaginations, it did not occur to me that a child in kindergarten would tell such an elaborate lie. When I looked back in the story, I found the spot where I think that Laurie first started to tell his lie. “The teacher spanked a boy, though, ... For being fresh” was Laurie’s replay to his mother asking him what happened in school. “Laurie though .....

The second apparition said, “Be bloody, bold, and resolute, Laugh to scorn the power of man, for none born of woman shall harm Macbeth.�( act 4, scene 1, lines 78-81) This meant that no man that was born out of the female birth canal could harm Macbeth. This statement contradicts the one statement made by the first apparition. Macbeth thought that since Macduff was human that he had to have been born through the birth canal. Macbeth did not know that Macduff was born by c-section, he was untimely ripp .....

.... 'The Ruum', is the extra-terrestrial machine that chases Jim and it is this chase, that puts all its readers at the edge of his or her chair. Arthur Porges has created an entertaining story that is very suspenseful and exciting. 'The Pedestrian' is a totally different type of story, which brings up social issues that can be debated. The point of these issues is to make the people of today think about whether what they are doing is right or wrong. Ray Bradbury's story is about a man named Leonard Mead in a city, in America who goes walking at night. In this city all the other citizens stay and watch their 'viewing screens'. .... the old women "strongly suspected a Reverend Franciscan..." for stealing Lady Cunegonde's money and diamonds. Although he was a reverend that didn't make a bit of difference to the old women when she assumed he was the thief. She said that because the reverend slept in the same inn, and had been in their room that night, that he must have stolen the money and diamonds. The reverends affliction with the church did not phase her at all. Not surprisingly, it turns out that it is the Reverend Friar who stole Lady Cunegonde's money and diamonds. Another great example of Volatires prejudice is shown when Cacambo is talking to Candide about Paragua .....

.... his flashing lights, my heart sank into my stomach. The officer asked if I knew why I was being stopped. I was speeding and I knew it. The officer went back to the car and began to write the ticket, while I was sitting in my car thinking. At first I thought about how much trouble I was going to be in and how much money it was going to cost me. I was very depressed. Then I got to thinking. What's the big deal? It's just a little traffic ticket. Sure, I may get in trouble, but who cares? It's just a small detail in my life. I can whine and complain, or I can focus on the more important things in life. Why waste away the days feeling .....

The article states that homelessness in America has been well documented since the mid-1980.
