No Speed Limit In Virginia
Words: 618 - Pages: 3.... the point? Currently, there is no federal speed limit however, there is a national speed limit set on commercial vehicles. So, any state is allowed to set the speed limit to what they want and "any state" means Virginia State also.
The Virginia State speed limit should be lifted from all interstate and state highways. The fact is the speed limit, which is set at 55 miles per hour around the area, causes many problems and traffic. The traffic in the Washington, DC metropolitan area is one of the worst in the United States. Especially on highway 66 where there is always a lot of traffic because people are worried about going the right spe .....

Gun Control
Words: 941 - Pages: 4.... Nationally, violent crime declined by 19.4% in that five year period. Violent crime actually rose in 12 of 29 states (41%) which liberalized their CCW laws over the five years beginning in 1992, compared to a similar rise in violent crime in only 4 of 22 states (18%) which did not change their CCW laws.
From the above statistics it is obvious that access to firearms did not provide extra protection for the citizen. In fact, the number of crime victims who successfully use firearms to defend themselves is quite small. Out of 34,040 American firearms deaths in 1996, only 212 were justifiable homicides by private citizens with firearms .....

Rockefeller Drug Laws
Words: 350 - Pages: 2.... sibling or wife of the dealer. They can all be sentenced to the same amount of time even if they weren’t the one running the show.
The drug penalties are more harsh than other worse crimes. Why should someone in the possession of an ounce of cocaine be given more time in jail than a rapist, or murderer? At least if you commit those crimes you can have the chance to appeal and get out on good behavior. Seriously what can be the good of keeping these laws?
The worst thing about the is that they just don’t work. The enactment of these laws has not stopped the use or the sale of drugs, an new method for dealing with drug crimes i .....

Random Drug Testing
Words: 426 - Pages: 2.... Constitution states that “Unreasonable searches are forbidden. The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue but upon probable cause. . .” The idea of random drug testing is randomly choosing people at random times to check for traces of illegal substances in their system. The fourth amendment states that searches should not be performed unless there is a probable cause to do so. Clearly, the concept of random drug testing is in violation of this amendment.

Capital Punishment Is Murder
Words: 1285 - Pages: 5.... No matter what someone does to you it doesn't make it okay to do it back, right? I believe this exactly. This is the reason that I disagree with capital punishment. and nobody is justified in killing another human for what they've done in the past.
There's really no other way to say it. A murder is a murder, there are no two ways to look at it. When one human loses their life due entirely to another human, what would it be called beyond murder? Capital Punishment does just that.
These people that are on death row in the United States are criminals. There is no disputing that fact. They have been tried an convicted. It is not wha .....

The Insanity Defense
Words: 818 - Pages: 3.... mental illness, justifiable placement of judged "mentally ill" offenders, and the overall usefulness of such a defense. In all, I believe that these problems, as well as others which will be mentioned later, lead us to the conclusion that is useless and should be abolished entirely. The major difficulty with a theory such as mental illness is that it is just that, a theory. To scientists theories are a way of life, but applied to the concept of law theories become somewhat dangerous. By applying a loose theory such as mental illness to law we are in essence throwing the monkey wrench into the wheels of justice.
According to the law .....

Death To The Death Penalty
Words: 767 - Pages: 3.... is blinded with passion, when emotions prevail over
reason. They are sometimes committed under the influence of drugs or
alcohol, or in panic moments, when the culprit is discovered while he
steals, as I mentioned already. Some murderers have very serious
psychiatric problems or are mental patients. In none of these cases is it
possible that the fear to be sentenced to death could act as an effective
deterrent.
There is another heavy limit. One who plans a crime rationally can
choose to go on, although he knows the risk he's running, thinking that he
won't be discovered. Most of the criminologists assert that the best way to

Study On Juvenile Psychopaths
Words: 3784 - Pages: 14.... Story and the Bloods and the Crips. It is not
inconceivable that the demographic surge of the next ten years will bring
with it young criminals who make the Bloods and the Crips look tame." (10)
They are what Professor DiIulio and others call urban "super predators";
young people, often from broken homes or so-called dysfunctional families,
who commit murder, rape, robbery, kidnapping, and other violent acts.
These emotionally damaged young people, often are the products of sexual or
physical abuse. They live in an aimless and violent present; have no sense
of the past and no hope for the future; they commit unspeakably brutal
crimes aga .....

Capital Punishment Deters Murder, And Is Just Retribution
Words: 374 - Pages: 2.... come to him. Another way the death penalty deters murder, is the fact
that if the killer is dead, he will not be able to kill again.
Most supporters of the death penalty feel that offenders should be
punished for their crimes, and that it does not matter whether it will deter the
crime rate. Supporters of the death penalty are in favour of making examples
out of offenders, and that the threat of death will be enough to deter the crime
rate, but the crime rate is irrelevant.
According to Isaac Ehrlich's study, published on April 16, 1976, eight
murders are deterred for each execution that is carried out in the U.S.A. He
