Capital Punishment
Words: 846 - Pages: 4.... in the society's
views on the morality of capital punishment. That resulted in the
narrowing down of the list of one hundred crimes to twelve, punishable by
the death penalty in 1833, and in 1869 it was cut down yet again to just
three: treason, rape, and murder because of violent nature of these crimes.
These crimes, even today, are still viewed as violent and should be
punished with the highest degree of discipline available to achieve justice.
After much public pressure, capital punishment was suspended on a
trial run in 1967. This proved to be ineffective, because even though the
law stipulated that crimes such as treason or .....

Capital Punishment
Words: 898 - Pages: 4.... row. Fifty to sixty percent of inmates are now executed each year, most after having served ten years on death row (Senna and Sigel 430). While inmates are on death row most will appeal the courts, which taxpayers also pay for. Inmates have their lawyer paid for the first time he or she appeals the court, after that it is up to the inmate to pay for his or her own lawyer. Now, after exhausting state appeals, most prisoners are allowed only one appeal in the federal courts (Regoli and Hewitt 544). I think if the inmate wants to appeal his or her case they should have to pay for it from the beginning. Society has to pay enough money as it is .....

Capital Punishment: For And Against
Words: 2560 - Pages: 10.... A community founded on moral principles has certain requirements.
The right to belong to a community is not unconditional. The privilege of living
and pursuing the good life in society is not absolute. It may be negated by
behavior that undermines the nature of a moral community. The essential basis on
which community is built requires each citizen to honor the rightful claims of
others. The utter and deliberate denial of life and opportunity to others

cost more to hold one inmate one years than to put him through Harvard Law
School. These people knew what they were doing when they did the crime, give
them consequences. There is also the "eye for an eye" argument. Make them feel
what their victims felt. The punishment for murder right now is three square
meals a day, a roof over their heads, a bed to sleep in, very often activities
to do. That include Tennis, Weightlifting, or even Prostitutes. Lets change
the penalty for murder from country club to Death.
The Cons:
"What if the man is innocent?" .....
