that coats our cities. They're young, articulate, and write novels that
bluntly reflect the nihilism of the generation X-ers. They follow in the
footsteps of the US grunge writers, inspired first by Bret Easton Ellis
Less Than Zero, American Psycho.
The River Ophelia was Ettler's first published novel but was written after
Marilyn's Almost Terminal New York Adventure which has just been released.
The River Ophelia was a 'heavy duty' novel. Confronting, repetitive and
relentless in its portrayal of an obsessive, self-abusive woman called
'Justine' and her quest for love. It has been hounded as anti-feminist
because .....

Words: 483 - Pages: 2.... can.
His noble blindness is a bad trait because he is taken advantage of easily. Cassius knows about Brutus’ love for Rome and his closeness to Caesar and he uses that in his plans. Cassius gains Brutus’ trusts as soon as he mentions the danger Rome is in if Caesar becomes king. In all actuality, the main reason Cassius uses Brutus in his plans is for an “insurance policy.” The people know Brutus’ nobility to Caesar and they will think that there was a good reason for Caesar’s assassination since Brutus was the one that committed it. Cassius declares, “Brutus shall lead the way, and we will grace his heels with the most .....

Critique Of Romeo And Juliet The Movie
Words: 476 - Pages: 2.... today would live. The story was set more fantasy-like.
Because of the setting, the deaths of the people in this movie did not seem as
moving as to the old movies. For some reason, the setting of Mercutio's death
interfered with this supposedly poetic scene. A broken down stage on a sandy
beach does not seem to fit well together. The setting seemed pretty artificial.
Also, the scene when one of the Montagues died at the gas station did not seem
as depressing as would be if any other person was to die. This scene was the
opening one so, the audience could have been distracted by the dialogue and
therefore, not paying attention to the de .....

Camila
Words: 392 - Pages: 2.... inherent problems of the Rosas era, the director
chose to show the injustices through the ordeals of Camila and Ladislao.
First of all, in everyday life, Rosas demanded public showings of
loyalty. Every citizen had to wear a bright red ribbon symbolizing their faith
in their leader. Slaves, commoners, and even priests had to wear this ribbon.
Through the execution of the bookseller, the tyranny of the Rosas regime is
clear. He will tolerate to questions to his authority or allow anyone with a
dissenting opinion to speak without fear of retribution. At the end of the film
when the two young lovers are captured, Rosas rears his head agai .....

The Glass Menagerie: Symbols
Words: 722 - Pages: 3.... fire escape as a way in and not a way out. This
can be seen when Amanda sends Laura to go to the store: Laura trips on the fire
escape. This also shows that Laura's fears and emotions greatly affect her
physical condition, more so than normal people.
Another symbol presented deals more with Tom than any of the other characters:
Tom's habit of going to the movies shows us his longing to leave the apartment
and head out into the world of reality. A place where one can find adventure.
And Tom, being a poet, can understand the needs of man to long for adventure and
romance. But he is kept from entering reality by Amanda, who criticizes him a .....

The Chocolate War: Comparison Between Book And Movie
Words: 311 - Pages: 2.... the movie were substantial.
In the movie there was a fight at the end, and Jerry beat Archie up. And
in the book there was no two person fight. At the end of the movie Obie
becomes head of the Vigils and Archie is reduced in rank. Archie get the
marble in the movie but not in the book. There is no music in the book,
but there is in the movie.
I liked the movie better than the book. It was better because
Jerry got even with Archie for once. And that in my opinion, is a better
way to end a movie like the Chocolate War. I just feel that movies are
more helpful. And in this case I just feel that it was much better. The
book just lacked .....

Most horrible of all is Ophelia's suicide-death. The emotion is evokes, coupled with the above points shows that Shakespeare's intentions was to make Ophelia, a minor character in terms of the number of lines assigned to her, into a memorable character evoking the most sympathy.
To fully see Ophelia's metamorphosis, one must compare her at the beginning and at the conclusion of Hamlet. Appearing first in Act 1, Scene 3, Ophelia seems to be a spirited young girl. She is very t .....

Hamlet: Playing The Roles
Words: 1387 - Pages: 6.... Gertrude about his melancholy appearance, Hamlet says, "Seems, madam? Nay it is. I know not 'seems.'" (1.2.76). This is to say, "I am what I appear to be." Later in act I, Hamlet makes a clear statement about his state when he commits himself to revenge. In this statement the play makes an easy to follow shift. This shift consists of Hamlet giving up the role of a student and mourning son. Hamlet says, "I'll wipe away all trivial fond records, All saws of books, all forms, all pressures past, That youth and observation copied there, And thy commandment all alone shall live Within the book and volume of my brain" (1.5.99-103). .....
