Romeo & Juliet: Friar Lawrence Is Good Intentioned
Words: 622 - Pages: 3.... rancour to pure love."(Act 2, Scene 3), he is saying that the
only reason he will marry Romeo and Juliet is because he hopes that the
marriage will end the hostilities between the two houses. When he says
"Shall Romeo by my letters know our drift, and hither shall he come; and
he and I shall watch thy waking, and that very night shall Romeo bear thee
to Mantua." (Act 4, Scene 1), he tells Juliet how everything will be all
right. Unfortunately, for all his good intentions the play still ends in
tragedy.
Friar Lawrence is a man who is not afraid to take risks when he feels it is
neccesary to help someone. For example in Act 2, Sce .....

Romeo And Juliet: Tragedy Of A Family Or A City?
Words: 252 - Pages: 1.... is one way or another involved in and responsible for what
happens." I agree with this quote. In the rest of this essay you will read why.
One reason why it is a tragedy of a city is because almost everyone is
involved. Almost the whole city attended the party which the Capulets held. Even
Romeo attended the party. Now the audience of the play knows that even the
city's citizens are involved.
The next reason is when Benvolio and Tybalt exchange insults. At first
they just argue. Then within a blink of an eye, you see masses of people
fighting. People come from all sides. To me, it looked as if the whole town was
present .....

Hamlet: Tragedy In Hamlet
Words: 1953 - Pages: 8.... form of action, not narration; by means of pity
and fear bringing about the purgation of such emotion. (Aristotle 38 -
9)
Shakespeare uses character, plot and setting to create a mood of disgust
and a theme of proper revenge, as opposed to fear and pity, hence Aristotle
would have disapproved of Hamlet. It is the above mentioned elements;
character, plot and setting, used in a non-Aristotelian way, that makes
Hamlet work as a one of the English language's most renown tragedies.
By proper revenge we refer to the Elizabethan view that revenge must
be sought in certain cases, for the world to continue properly. This is the
main p .....

Shakespeare's "Henry IV": Summary

really bother him. His best friend would have to be the fat old slob
Falstaf. Falstaf is always around in the story and talks all of the time.
He also spends most of his time drinking in the tavern. Hal likes to hang
out with Falstaf because he is funny and outspoken. Hal and Falstaf could
make fun of each other and call each other names and that wont bother them.
For instance when the prince started calling Falstaf, “This bed-presser,
this horse-back-breaker, this huge hill of flesh”. Then Falstaf came back
by saying, “Sblood, you starveling, you eel-skin, you dried neat's- tongue,
you bull's pizzle, you stock-fish,--O for b .....

Children, TV, And Violence
Words: 2528 - Pages: 10.... programs as "Sesame Street", "Mr. Rogers", and "Scooby - Doo". I
have nothing but pleasant memories filled with happiness, peace, understanding,
and learning. When you watch children's programs today you see senseless
violence often as the first means of solving a problem. The classic view of
"good" versus "evil" is the basis of these shows with violence as the answer.
When children watch these programs they copy the actions and "morals" of these
shows depicting "good" and "evil". Children do not know what "good" is or what
"evil" is, how can they? This world is not broken into "good" and "evil".
"Evil" to children is what opposes t .....

Amelia
Words: 330 - Pages: 2.... the parents act as if nothing happened. Other cultures would not except their children to do that. Also the style in which dresses would not be clear to other cultures. She dresses like a boy which reflects on her acting like a boy. For someone not knowing the present culture this would have no effect on the story. At one point in this scene tells her parents that they are out of milk. To a person who isn’t familiar with the culture this would seem out of line. She comes off in a rude way which would make her seem like the one at fault to an outsider. The way this scene is perceived could extremely vary from culture to cult .....

The Use Of “Foil” Characters In Shakespeare’s Hamlet
Words: 1330 - Pages: 5.... hand of Hamlet. These three near
identical situations give rise to three very different courses of action
(or inaction). It is here that Laertes and Fortinbras display their true
purpose in the play.
If we first examine the acts of Fortinbras we can see numerous
occasions when the brave and instinctive actions of this character reflect
poorly upon the character of Hamlet. For example although we do not see
Fortinbras’s initial reaction to his fathers death, we know that from the
outset of the play he has already set out to avenge his fathers death.
“...Now, sir, young Fortinbras,
Hath in the skirts of Norway, here and there, .....

Julius Caesar: The Use Of Suspense
Words: 668 - Pages: 3.... conclusively, cassius forged letters and
threw them into Brutus's window where he was sure to find them. Shakespeare
wrote this statement: "we will awake him and be sure of him. This is a very
powerful statement that builds suspense because the reader most likely feels
that Brutes will join in and want to assassinate Caesar, yet the reader is
uncertain as to whether or not the plan will work. These events are very
suspenseful as they lead up to the assassination of Caesar.
The next series of suspenseful events that foreshadow Caesar's
assassination happen on a very unusual night. One night before Caesar's death
there were many strange o .....

be a person who accepted him for who he was in a society where homosexuals are
discriminated against. What Blanche said completely devastated Allan and he
found no reason to continue living. Although Blanche had no intentions of
hurting Allan, enough damage was done to prompt Allan to shoot himself, his mind
and body destroyed.
The harsh treatment dealt by Mitch to Blanche near the end of the play is
strikingly similar to Blanche's treatment of Allan Gray. Mitch is a friend of

The Odyssey: Character Study Of Athena
Words: 562 - Pages: 3.... she comes to him as a good friend, encouraging the young boy to
do what he must and seek out news about his father. But when she leaves,
she gives a little hint to him that she's actually a goddess by turning
into a bird. I think this was a weakness of Athena. The fact that she
constantly showed off to many people that she was indeed a goddess shows
that she wants to be praised by all and showing a slight immature and soft
side on her part.
This can also be interpreted as a good action in some cases. When
Telemakhos knows Athena, a goddess, is on his side, this gives him extra
confidence. She also shows a caring side when s .....
