Vivisection
Words: 349 - Pages: 2.... because if scientists find a cure for something the inmate would be known as a hero. I do not think they should make them do it because they have rights too. Inmates should be able to do it if they want. The inmates should be asked that question by the judge when they are being sentenced for their crime.
I understand that there is another opinion to this debate. I can almost understand why they would believe in . The only time I believe it should be used is for patients dying of cancer. I still do not think it is right. We might not have some of the cures we have today without animal testing, although maybe we would. Maybe we would .....

Nucular War
Words: 1384 - Pages: 6.... Enrico Fermi and J. Robert Oppenheimer, and the chemist Harold Urey, and was in charge by an U.S. Army engineer, Major General Lesle Groves.
After the war, the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission became in charge of all nuclear matters, including weapons research. Other types of bombs were developed to tap the energy of light elements, such as hydrogen. In these bombs the source of energy is the fusion process, in which nuclei of the isotopes of hydrogen combine to form a heavier helium nucleus. This weapons research has resulted in the production of bombs that range in power from a fraction of a kiloton to many megatons. The size of the bom .....

EPA Urges Tough Rules On Arsenic
Words: 308 - Pages: 2.... had been hastily crafted without adequate scientific study or consideration of the cost for small communities that would have to change their filtration systems to meet federal law. The review focused on alternative standards – ranging from as low as 3 parts per billion to as high as 20 parts per billion. Whitman states it is to dangerous to have the arsenic levels over 20 parts per billion.
Person 4- Arsenic occurs naturally in rocks, soil, water, air, plants and animals. High concentration levels are mostly found in the drinking water in the Western states. Long-term exposure to arsenic in drinking water led to cancer of the bladd .....

Early Health And Medicine
Words: 419 - Pages: 2.... hygiene. Such as, brushing their teeht and bathing more persistently. Pastuer opened the doors to a series of new remedies and discoveries. Some of these would include pasteurized milk(you can see where it received it's name), bacteria, fermentation, yeast, and rabies:to name a few. Within a year of Pasteur's remedy for rabies, he treated and cured maore than 2,000 patients.
A German pathologist named Robert Kock (1843-1910) studied a disease called diptheria. Koch learned htat diptheria bacteria or bacilli could only be found in samples from a patients throat. Although Koch could not understand how diptheria was somehow affecting t .....

Stratospheric Observatory For Infrared Astronomy
Words: 178 - Pages: 1.... focal plane
instruments, with in-flight accessibility, provided by investigators selected
from the international science community. The Observatory objective is to have
an operational lifetime in excess of 20 years.
The SOFIA project is in the early full-scale stage. The start of detailed system
design is anticipated in the Fall of 1996. The German Space Agency (DARA) is a
partner with NASA in the SOFIA project. DARA will provide the telescope and NASA
will provide the rest of the facility including the 747 aircraft, aircraft
modifications, on-board mission control system, ground facilities and support
equipment, overall management, syst .....

Radioactive Wastes
Words: 1801 - Pages: 7.... several years new ways of disposing and storing these wastes
have been developed so they may no longer be harmful. A very advantageous way of
storing radioactive wastes is by a process called 'vitrification'.
Vitrification is a semi-continuous process that enables the following
operations to be carried out with the same equipment: evaporation of the waste
solution mixed with the additives necesary for the production of borosilicate
glass, calcination and elaboration of the glass. These operations are carried
out in a metallic pot that is heated in an induction furnace. The vitrification
of one load of wastes comprises of the fol .....

The Dangers Of Nuclear "Progress"
Words: 610 - Pages: 3.... bombs has
the ability to wipe out an entire country. The United States did make an
attempt after World War II at eliminating nuclear proliferation by
proposing the Baruch Plan in the United Nations. This proposal stated that
all nuclear technology and materials be placed under international
ownership and that all nuclear weapons be destroyed. However, the Soviet
Union feared that the United States would always have a military advantage
if they gave up their plans for building a nuclear device and, therefore,
rejected the proposal.
I think that the refusal of the Soviet Union was a big mistake on
their part. Not only did they p .....

Genetic Engineering, History And Future
Words: 2972 - Pages: 11.... medicine. It will usher in a world where gene defects, bacterial disease, and even aging are a thing of the past. By understanding genetic engineering and its history, discovering its possibilities, and answering the moral and safety questions it brings forth, the blanket of fear covering this remarkable technical miracle can be lifted.
The first step to understanding genetic engineering, and embracing its possibilities for society, is to obtain a rough knowledge base of its history and method. The basis for altering the evolutionary process is dependant on the understanding of how individuals pass on characteristics to their offspring. .....

The Beginning Of The Universe
Words: 1285 - Pages: 5.... to expand, and the galaxies have
continued moving away from each other ever since. Today the universe is
still expanding, as astronomers have observed.
The Steady State model says that the universe does not evolve or
change in time. There was no beginning in the past, nor will there be
change in the future. This model assumes the perfect cosmological
principle. This principle says that the universe is the same everywhere on
the large scale, at all times.2 It maintains the same average density of
matter forever.
There are observational evidences found that can prove the Big Bang
model is more reasonable than the Steady S .....

Creation Of The Beach
Words: 1256 - Pages: 5.... fragments--is washed to sea by streams and rivers. Two separate processes result in the deposit of this sand and sediment on the shore. Most sediment is suspended in sea water and transported along the coast by the longshore current, a stream of water flowing parallel to the beach that is created by the action of waves breaking at an angle to shore. Longshore transport can deliver up to a million cubic yards of sediment annually to a single beach. In the second process, sand deposited onshore by the longshore current is then oscillated by waves breaking onto and receding from the beach. This continual onshore-offshore movement gradually .....
