.... up. Lonnie's father died when he was a very young boy, and Jesus lost his dad to prison. However, they both had someone to help push them harder to "take it to their limit". Cal is the character who helped Lonnie by coaching him and Jesus relied on memories of his fathers inspiration. I feel it is important that an athlete have someone to inspire them, so they don't quit when they get frustrated. Lonnie, from "Hoops," was a very good basketball player, and Jesus from "He Got Game," was streetwise and a good player also. They each caught an opportunity to rise above the rest in their games, and were recognized by colleges as prospects. .....

.... just seeing a girl in the park Emil is able to completely change his life around. People work hard for years in rehabilitation centers to fight alcoholism and still even after beating it cannot have another drink in their life but Emil sees this one girl in the park and is instantly changed. Also Emil is so completely changed that later on he is capable of having a drink with Demian and still does not go back to his old ways. However this is very unrealistic and goes against common sense completely. Hermann Hesse does however do an excellent job in foreshadowing the conclusion of the story. What it would be like to live under such circumstances in constant fear of their lives. It deals with gang warfare, alcohol, drugs, child abuse, murder, survival and growing up. These are areas that a pubescent teenager can easily lose themselves in. It forces the reader to realise that in many cases teenagers have no choice in what lifestyles that are born into in this case either becoming the rich kid or the kid from the wrong side of the tracks. The novel has been incorporated into a Francis Ford Coppola's 1983 movie adaptation, .....

.... He later found Ellen crouched in a drift of sand, the baby had died. So, as you can see Ellen was a very negative type of person, a complete failure. She was always thinking negatively and could never say anything positive about the situation. I think she found later found out how much of a mistake it was when the baby died. It did all create success in the end. The storm finally ended in the three days Paul said it would. Paul accepted Ellen back into the family after she ran away. The last thing was that Paul promised her that he would change his crops, breed cattle and restore the land again. So, Ellen did succeed in the end. .....
