Jane Eyre: Analysis Of Bronte's Work
Words: 1199 - Pages: 5.... thought of
women expressing rage and blatantly retaliating against authority was a
defiance against the traditional role of women. Jane Eyre sent
controversy through the literary community. For not only was it written
by a woman but marked the first use of realistic characters. Jane's
complexity lied in her being neither holy good nor evil. She was poor and
plain in a time when society considered "an ugly woman a blot on the face
of creation." It challenged Victorian class structure in a strictly
hierachal society. A relationship between a lowly governess and a wealthy
nobleman was simply unheard of. Bronte drew criticism for her a .....

Even after Lennie kills Curley’s wife, old Candy still wants to join George and carry out the dream. Also, Crooks is betrayed to be o .....

Laura and Lizzie could be one person having two separate desires fighting within her. Laura would be the part that desires the fruit and falls into temptation and Lizzie would be the part that desires to stay away from it.
The doubleness between Laura and Lizzie parallels the doubleness between Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. Similar to Laura and Lizzie, Adam and Eve also had opposing desires, and Eve, similar to Laura, fell into temptation by eating the forbi .....

"Steinbeck's knowledge of the forces which hold
a family together and the forces which cause it
to disintegrate. He understands that family
councils are an important part of the lives of
the Joads."
The major theme is the struggle and survival of the Joad family from the

They hate each other, as do Joe and Kathleen, in person, but both couples evidently have a relationship where despite their feelings that the other is a bad person, they find each others good points online or by post. This is shown in The Shop Around the Corner in a quote from Klara, who says to Kralik, "Why, I could show you letters that would open your eyes. No, I guess you probably wouldn't understand what's in them. They're written by a type of man so far superior to you it isn't even funny." The same basic statement is made by Kathleen to Joe in You've Got Mail, where she remarks, "The man who is coming here toni .....

What seems most imteresting in Hawthorne’s texts is the wrestling between two belief systems. On the one hand, Puritanism bestows doctrine which valued the greater moral good of the community over an individual’s well-being. In this sense, the community/society remains the central voice over any individual’s thoughts and/or feelings. Puritans believe that humans are born sinners, enslaved by evil, and therefore, predestined in the eyes of God. God is the center of all, who chooses the electe .....
