Personal Writing: My Autobiography
Words: 490 - Pages: 2.... This began a
long series of moves for me. Mom and I moved to Knoxville to live with my
maternal grandmother, and I often stayed with my aunts while Mom and
Grandmother worked. When I was four, Mom got remarried, and we moved to
Jacksonville, North Carolina. We lived in a duplex for six months, just
long enough for the three of us to find a house. Then we moved only five
miles away to a place I could finally call βhome.β In August of 1988, I
started kindergarten, at Swansboro Primary School. In October of that
same year Mom gave birth to my sister Kira. In 1990, to my sister Kristy
was born. The next year went on to Swansboro .....

Road Trips Revisited - A Route 66
Words: 1057 - Pages: 4.... exactly what it
was. The signs were there but where was the road? I never quite figured
that out at the time and the exact meaning of "Get your kicks on Route 66"
eluded me too. I remember browsing through a book in a bookstore, Route 66
- The Mother Road by Michael Wallis, and being fascinated by the pictures,
the small towns, the old gas stations, the hamburger joints and the old
signs. This was what had always fascinated me on the road too, more than
the National Parks, Disneyland and the skyscrapers together!
I finally bought the book last year and the Route 66 mystery started to
unfold. My wife and I took a road trip from Phoenix t .....

One Afternoon
Words: 985 - Pages: 4.... house?" Ryan asked as we sat on the curb, both of us sucking on a frozen Mr. Freezie juice strip. We sat there for awhile, imagining the old man, stomping out the screen door with his fist raised and yelling at us, threatening to call our mother. Eventually he'd go back inside after he realized he couldn't find us, even though we were crouching behind the nearby pines at the edge of his yard. Still waiting at least ten more minutes (to see if the old crab would emerge from his door) Ryan and I would plan our escape route. A quick sprint down the road would bring us to our destination: the backyard tree fort. It was a plan. A decent .....

Personal Writing: Fickle Fisherman
Words: 541 - Pages: 2.... was there something wrong with my fish? I
just disregarded it and continued fishing. Then as i was getting bored and
drowsey I heard a yelp and the old man shot up. He had a bite! As he was
fighting it he started talking and telling me how to catch a REAL fish not the
guppy in my bucket. As he talked and talked the fish got closer and closer and
he netted it up and took a look. The fish was about half the size of mine but
it was a carp not a catfish. I gave a little laugh and continued and he tried
to explain...."well you see boy, a carp is a hell of alot harder to hook than a
catfish. Carp don't just eat everything they see, they're .....

A Chance To Shine
Words: 1033 - Pages: 4.... that time in my life, and I really got to see just what good soccer players played like. That first year I was one of the last kids to be called, and just barely made the team. I was the "scrub" of the group, I always sat the bench, and never started. I was the kid no one wanted to be stuck with in partner drills and the kid no one wanted to pick to fill up there team when we scrimmaged ourselves. I was the kid who had to pick it up or be cut from the team, something had to give.
My fourth year on the team was like the ending of an era. Our three best players on the team had informed the coach before the season started that next .....

Alone With Nature
Words: 367 - Pages: 2.... the dark, rich soil. They sway playfully
in unison with the warm caressing breeze, carefully merging the two scents
into one fresh, clean fragrance.
You pry yourself away from the immense meadow, still filled with
many unexplored treasures and turn back into the foliage covered depths of
the forest. The sun is comfortably placed in front of the cotton candy
clouds, in the midst of the soft blue sky. The occasional bird soars
through in a last minuet attempt to catch a worm so it may feed the
yearning mouths of it's young. The rough dirt trail ends and you are
brought to the base of a rock. Your feet reach for the unfamiliar footholds
of .....

Creative Writing: The Drive
Words: 1802 - Pages: 7.... my so called
perfect life in Yuma, Arizona.
I remember driving, looking out of the window at the mountains and clay colored
rocks. I realized just how beautiful it all was. Again, my thoughts turned back
to my life. The man I thought I would end up sharing my so-called perfect life
with. I could see his face, remember his smile, hear him laugh. Jim and I were
great friends for a long while. Almost a whole year, until I began to actually
feel something stronger. I had never been in love before and it had been an
overwhelming feeling. At a party, I had too much to drink and on the way home
blurted out how I had felt. He smiled .....

Rethinking The Watchtowers
Words: 1706 - Pages: 7.... of the original, since any
variation in the ceremony might cause major problems for the magician.
Seldom, if ever, did anyone pause to consider where these rituals came from
in the first place, or who composed them. Most of us, alas, did not know
and did not care. It was enough just to follow the rubrics and do the
rituals as prescribed.
But something brought me to an abrupt halt in my copying frenzy. I
had dutifully copied rituals from different sources, and suddenly realized
they contained conflicting elements. I found myself comparing the two
versions, wondering which one was "right", "correct", "authentic",
"original", "older .....

student and their personal beliefs to make their learning environment
comfortable. Every aspect of our society has changed, we live in a more
promiscuous society. Our children are having children. We as teachers must

discuss, prayer in the classroom, AIDS and tenure.

Creative Writing: The Tiger And The Tree
Words: 666 - Pages: 3.... juicy pears! Oh, we are so hungry and thirsty!"
Rabbit thought about this and being such a clever animal, he immediately devised a plan. "Come close, come close. Listen to me and I will tell you what to do."
The next morning all of the animals secretly gathered in the forest near the field where Tiger was sleeping. All of the animals who lived on the ground, like Turtle, Elephant, Ox, and Donkey, they all stood near big hollow logs. All of the monkeys and birds who lived in the trees quietly sat in the branches and waited for Rabbit to arrive.
Soon Rabbit did show up, carrying a large, thick rope. He ran across the field and made a lot of n .....
