.... the book. I couldn't see why it was called The Stranger. After discussions in our class and pondering this question ,I came up with my answer. The reason the book is titled the way it is, is the way that everyone in the society and those who interacted with Meursault perceived him as a stranger because he hardly showed any emotion in his life. At least that is what I have perceived and it is my only logical answer that I could get to that question. Communication theorist define perception as the way we view "X". .... Throughout the book Clemens compares and contrasts many of the social groups. Throughout the novel Clemens portrays Caucasians as a more educated group that is higher in society compared to the African Americans portrayed in the novel. The way that Clemens portrays African Americans as foul is through the conversations that he assigns them. Their dialogue is composed of nothing but broken English. They even came to Oedipus with “olive boughs all wreathed in woe,” the same way one would go to a altar when they wanted something urgently. This shows their faith in Oedipus.
