In the rest of the poem Prufrock imagines his arrival, his attempt to converse intimately with the woman whose love he seeks, and his ultimate failure to make her understand him. In chapter 35 we encounter a scene where Starbuck, the first mate, learns of Ahab's intent to pursue the White Whale to satisfy his lust for vengeance.
