But opposite of what she wants, Homer is a homosexual: ¡§¡Khe liked men, and it was known that he drank with the younger men in the Elks¡¦ Club --- that he was not a marrying man¡¨ (¡§A Rose for Emily¡¨, 126). To keep him with her forever, Miss Emily chooses to murder Homer. ¡§Then we noticed that in the second pillow was the indentation of a head. One of us lifted something from it, and learning forward, we saw a long strand of iron-gray hair¡¨ (¡§A Rose for Emily¡¨, 130), Faulkner implies that Miss Emily actually sleeps with the corpse. Macbeth-tragic Hero
Words: 707 - Pages: 3.... At the beginning of the play, Macbeth is portrayed as a brave, selfless warrior - competent and loyal to his lord Duncan. He defends Duncan by killing Macdonwald and the forces of the traitorous Thane of Cawdor. He performs these acts not because he enjoys slaughtering people, but because he is addicted to the fame, royal favor, and titles such as ¡§valor¡¦s minion¡¨ (Shakespeare, 13) and ¡§Bellona¡¦s bridegroom¡¨ (Shakespeare, 15). No doubt he also rejoices in the success that crowns his efforts in battle. Macbeth remains an honorable gentleman until he begins to covet the kingship. He is not a criminal and has no crimi .....

Canterbury Tales - The Prioress
Words: 1095 - Pages: 4.... so-called religious person is really about. Chaucer's initial introduction to the Prioress is as follows: "There was also a nun, a prioress, Who, in her smiling, modest was and coy; Her greatest oath was but "By Saint Eloy!" And she was known as Madam Eglantine. Full well she sang the services divine," (118) At first, one would think that Chaucer's description will be as flattering as that of the knight but soon enough we see the total opposite because at first Chaucer describes her as a delicate and well-mannered woman. "At table she had been well taught withal, And never from her lips let morsels fall, Nor dipped her fingers deep in sauce .....

Huckleberry Finn Contraversy
Words: 315 - Pages: 2.... of graphic scenes. Some of these episodes would include Huck faking his own death and Jim finding Pap's dead body lying in a boat. These analysts argue that children should be forbidden to read the publication. In this day and age, High schoolers should be able to handle the material offered in Twain's timeless edition.
Many commentators protest that Huck Finn is pointless and without purpose. This accusation is unsuitable, due to the accuracy of the dialects, as well as the historical ideas and morals of society that can just as well be found in an American history book. Mark Twain stated in the introduction of the book that rea .....

Aristotle On Ridicule
Words: 891 - Pages: 4.... way that seems not to admit any acceptable forms.
When looking at good and bad company, Aristotle considers it entirely in terms of “entertaining conversation,” such as humor, wit, or ridicule. He argues that “adaptability” in the way we talk to people is desirable, since there is a time and a place for everything. The paragraph begins with indirect definitions of two extremes of humor, the buffoon and the humorless person. A buffoon would rather be a fool and hurt people’s feelings than “fail to raise a laugh”. A man who never cracks a joke is also falling short of the appropriate behavior, which is the gentleman’s abil .....

Sexuality In Wiseblood
Words: 1239 - Pages: 5.... quickly.
This first bout with sexuality was certainly a grotesque one, and one which, perhaps, helped fortify his resolve not to experiment with sex for years to come. Haze reacted to the incident on different levels. Before watching the "show," he was filled with curiosity. So badly he wanted to view this "EXclusive" show. After glancing at the body, he first thought that it was a skinned animal. When he realized what it was, he at once left the tent, ashamed, and perhaps frightened of the object before his eyes.
Hazel’s reaction was not unnatural. The sight with which he was confronted would invoke both fear and embarassment within mos .....

Words: 1285 - Pages: 5.... We also learn that he intends to go unpunished for this act of vengeance. The narrator informs us that he is going to continue to smile in Fortunato’s face, but use the pride his victim has in wine to lure him into the catacombs to taste some of his non- existent amontillado. At this point, the reader knows the conflict will be one of man against man. It is an external struggle because Fortunato and Montresor are in a life and death fight. However, the conflict is largely internal, because Montresor has a fierce hatred that Fortunato is unaware of. The narrative hook seems to occur when Fortunato follows Montresor i .....

What Is A Luxury?
Words: 729 - Pages: 3.... so dependent upon luxuries, bad things
can happen. The luxury becomes more important than friends and sometimes

Personally, I have been there and experienced this kind of stupor or
addiction to a possession of mine.
I met Denny Hippchen and Aaron Steinmetz during my first year at
Shasta High School and these two young men awakened my interest in
computers. A computer has been around me ever since. You could call it a
luxury but now I am so used to using the computer that it is now a
