Arthur Miller And "The Crucible"
Words: 5059 - Pages: 19.... that continues to excite and enrage audiences and
readers.
The Crucible is set in another politically charged period in U.S. history.
The Salem witch trials of the late 17th century resulted in the accusation
and hanging of many colonials. Citizens of the Massachusetts colony were
arrested and forced to admit their own guilt and inform on others. Whether
or not the play is historically accurate is not important to the approach
used in this teacher's guide. Although we will suggest ways to examine the
historical backdrop of the Salem witch trials and will discuss how the play
can be used in English and history, we will focus primarily on the .....

A Midsummer Night's Dream: Women In Elizabethian England
Words: 317 - Pages: 2.... example of how woman were seen as second class citizens is how
they were supposed to treat men. Theseus proclaims to Hermia that she should
see her father as a God for he alone is responsible for her being. No mention
is made of Hermia's mother. It seemed to be the view at this time that men were
wholly responsible for the creation of children and woman were just a vessel for
the birthing. Which is curious because one would expect woman to hold a higher
place for giving birth to children, the lifeline to the future.
During the Shakespearean era woman were seen as second class citizens.
Although the start of marriage for love was j .....

Movie Review: Introducing Dorothy Dandridge
Words: 678 - Pages: 3.... and two to spark interest in Black history. I think by
bringing up some of the struggles black actors had to go through such as
the only parts being maids, not being able to use restrooms in places they
were performing, or just the fact of the constant battle with prejudice
gives the new generations more respect and appreciation for where they are
and the people who made it possible. The struggles that Dorthy had to g
through such as the scene where they drained the pool since she touched it
amazed me. I couldn’t imagine having to perform under conditions that I
couldn’t use the facilities around me in the hotel I was staying. .....

Although he may love her with all his might, as he tells Laeretes,:
I loved Ophelia. Forty thousand brothers
Could not with all their quantity of love
Make up my sum. (V,i, 264-266)
Hamlet is too immature to love her enough to trust her in their
relationship. This trust that he is lacking will give him the ability to
hand Ophelia the key to his madness however, due to immaturity he is unable
to hand her the key. Because of Hamlet's immaturity this same madness
enables him to act extremely irrational at times, such as killing Polonius.
Most mature people will take the time to find out what is beh .....

greedy for more. And soon it gets out of control and now you have a corrupted
person who in order to change would have to step out of power and become a
person who doesn't control.
Nothing can really be done to sustain it or avoid it, if you take a corrupt
person in power and replace a fair and just person. Sooner or later they also
become corrupt. You just have to assume and hope the replacement will be a fair
person.
In the tradgity "Macbeth" there are many examples of corruption. When Macbeth
became Thane of Cowdor his wife, Lady Macbeth, was very delighted to hear of
