The Crucible: Theme Of Mass Hysteria
Words: 871 - Pages: 4.... The Crucible contains many important events that precede the
madness that ensues by the end of the play. Abigail Williams, for instance,
has a love affair with John Proctor, and wants Proctor to leave his wife
Elizabeth for her. Another character with a hidden agenda is Mr. Thomas
Putnam, who hopes to take over some of his neighbor's land. To amplify the
situation, a group of girls are questioned by ministers for performing
witch-like rituals in the forest. A Puritan belief of the 17th century is
that the devil and other demons live in the forest, and that witchcraft is
performed there as well. Dissembling citizens begin to .....

Art
Words: 4348 - Pages: 16.... and each artist
portrays different aspects of the world they know. Briefly, it may be said that
artists paint to discover truth and to create order. The creators of art make
discoveries about the wonders and beauty of nature and the dignity and nobility
of man. They give these concepts an order to help us understand life in a
greater depth. In understanding the history and style of any period of art, we
have to comprehend the balance between social and political development of that
particular era. Within each and every period, development of style is affected
by a response to particular philosophies, social and economic condition .....

Julius Caesar: Roman Life During The First Triumvirate
Words: 743 - Pages: 3.... is to come through terse tidbits, these people may also be looked upon as superstitious. In the opening scene, one sooth-sayer, old in his years, warns Caesar to "Beware the Ides of March," an admonition of Caesar's impending death. Although sooth-sayers are looked upon by many as insane out of touch lower-classmen, a good deal of them, obviously including the sayer Caesar encountered, are indeed right on the mark. Since they lack any formal office or shop, and they predict forthcomings without fee, one can see quite easily why citizens would distrust their predictions. Superstition, in general elements such as the Feast of Lupercal, as wel .....

Movie: Arsenic And Old Lace
Words: 246 - Pages: 1.... as many people as they did. Much to
Jonathan's surprise , the aunts killed just as many men without the plastic
surgery , without the running , they just sat right there .
"Charge…" we hear as Teddy Brewster runs up the stairs. This
caracter brings out the most comedy in the picture. Teddy is the only character
in the movie that proves to be insane in my opinion. Any man who thinks he is a
dead president (TDR) has to have some problems.
The plot unfolds when Mortimer Brewster finds out about his
aunts secret after finding a present in the window seat . Mortimer panics and
runs all over trying to take care of his aunts and keep them .....

Spielberg. However, just like Spielberg's previous AMAZING STORIES, HIGH

Thursday night, and include the tremendously popular FRIENDS, the SINGLE GUY,
the hits SEINFELD and CAROLINE IN THE CITY, and the most popular show this year,
ER. For the remaining hour I choose to look at THE TONIGHT SHOW, with Jay Leno.
Between these shows there are many similarities and many differences. All of
these shows can be directly compar .....

She does not directly say she is vein but it is implied.
Another time that she is noted for being vein is in "Scene Ten",
this is when Stanley and Blanch are yelling at each other:
Stanley: And look at yourself! Take a look at yourself in that
worn out Mardi Gras outfit, rented for fifty cents from some
rag-picker! And with the crazy crown on! What queen do you think
you are?
Blanch: Oh-God...
Stanley: I've been on to you from the start! Not once did you
pull any wool over this boy's eyes! You come in here and sprinkle .....

encouragement for their purpose in society. Furthermore, they felt vindicated
as Kate solemnly insulted the disobedient women (Bianca and the Widow), telling
them to "Come, come, you froward and unable worms!". It may also be said that
this play, as well as similar plays of the Elizabethan era, assisted in
contributing to the oppression of females in society for an innumerable amount
of years.
After the conclusion of The Taming of the Shrew, including Kate's
soliloquy, the audience is left with a proud feeling - proud of the fact that
Petruchio tamed such a shrew so well. The men of the audience are about with
feeling of satisfa .....

The Generation Gap In King Lear
Words: 1649 - Pages: 6.... themes of the generation gap.
Symbolism contributes to the themes authority and power in King
Lear. These symbols are represented by material things. For example, in
[Act 1 scene 1] when Lear is dividing up his land, power and authority to
his three daughters, depending on how much they can verbally express their
love for him. [Lines 52-53] "Which of you shall say doth love us most?
That we our largest bounty may extend where nature doth with merit
challenge." The land that each daughter received is the extent of their
authority and of their power in the Kingdom. For example, the Duke of
Burgundy did not wish to marry Cor .....

He was not meant to be a main character, but any character that is put in the position of an informant, instantly becomes a main character.
