The Chlorine Debate: How White Do You Want It?
Words: 1421 - Pages: 6.... cleaning fluids, antifreeze, paints, medicines,
and petroleum products. The unfortunate and unavoidable by-product of these
manufacturing processes is dioxin, one of the most toxic substances on the
planet earth. Dioxins are also produced whenever chlorine containing substances,
such as PVC, are burned.
Life as we know it will change, if a Greenpeace campaign is successful.
The powerful environmental group has mounted a well-organized campaign that has
as its objective nothing less than a total, worldwide ban on chlorine. With the
public health and billions of dollars at stake, the debate over chlorine has
become one of the wor .....

Protein Synthesis
Words: 336 - Pages: 2.... information. This mRNA leaves the nucleus through a nuclear pore, DNA is too large a molecule to do this, to the cytoplasm. In the cytoplasm there are free transfer RNA [tRNA] molecules which hve three protruding bases these sets of three on the tRNA are called anti-codons. Each tRNA molecule attracts different amino acids, of which there are around twenty, and they "stick" to the tRNA and depending on which tRNA molecule it is it wil attract a diferent amino-acid.On the RNA every three bases are called codons these are complementary to the anti-codons of the tRNA. For instance a codon of - GAA - would pair with the anti-codon- CUU -. In .....

UFO's: Seeing Is Believing
Words: 685 - Pages: 3.... the
universe. But in a universe so incomprehensibly large that we no not even
a boundary, I sincerely doubt that the human race is the only form of life.
It seems certain scientists have come up with other hypotheses
concerning UFO's. While all astronomers yearn for a concrete explanation
on UFO's, their beliefs on their origin contrast. Many looking for a more
scientific definition disregard UFO's as nothing more than a mere
misinterpretation of a plane, weather balloon, or meteor. Some have gone
so far as to say that specific witnesses to UFO's have seen nothing more
than a hallucination and "wanted" to see a UFO so their minds adapte .....

Depression
Words: 521 - Pages: 2.... to sleep a lot more than they normally
would, but again they might also sleep much less than normal. A person with depression
doesn't realize and most of the time has no control whatsoever over these feelings. They
have no idea that what is wrong with them is that they have depression. They might put
the blame on some other stressful thing or even other people.
Changes in the level of energy a person has can be caused by depression. One
possible reason for this ties into their eating and sleeping habits. If a person starts to eat
less, or sleep less they will notice a drop in how much energy the have. Some people
with depressi .....

The Big Bang Model
Words: 1285 - Pages: 5.... to expand, and the galaxies have
continued moving away from each other ever since. Today the universe is
still expanding, as astronomers have observed.
The Steady State model says that the universe does not evolve or
change in time. There was no beginning in the past, nor will there be
change in the future. This model assumes the perfect cosmological
principle. This principle says that the universe is the same everywhere on
the large scale, at all times.2 It maintains the same average density of
matter forever.
There are observational evidences found that can prove the Big Bang
model is more reasonable than the Stead .....

A Study Of Inheritable Traits In Fruit Flies
Words: 1423 - Pages: 6.... the egg hatches to reveal the larva. During this stage,
growth and molting occur. Once growth is complete, the Drosophila enter the
pupal stage, where it develops into an adult through metamorphosis. Upon
reaching adulthood, the flies are ready to mate and produce the next generation
of Drosophila melanogaster.
During this experiment, monohybrid and dihybrid crosses were conducted
with Drosophila melanogaster. Our objective was to examine the inheritance from
one generation to the next. We collected the data from the crosses and analyzed
them in relation to the expected results.
MATERIALS AND METHODS
For the monohybrid cross in th .....

Deciduous Forests
Words: 1286 - Pages: 5.... forests, they have been cleared so that the land could be used for
farming or residential use. The temperate deciduous forests of North America
were more diverse than the same type of forests in Europe due to glacial history.
Glacial action dumped till as the ice edge retreated, and North America
inherited a fertile soil base. Soil type is an important factor for which
species of trees can thrive in an area. The general dominant tree species for
temperate deciduous forests are Beech, Ash, Oak, and in our region also Tulip,
Maple, Birch, and Hickory. Developed forests consist of four layers. The layers
are: canopy, sub canopy, shrub, and grou .....

Genetic Engineering, History And Future: Altering The Face Of Science
Words: 2968 - Pages: 11.... where gene
defects, bacterial disease, and even aging are a thing of the past. By
understanding genetic engineering and its history, discovering its possibilities,
and answering the moral and safety questions it brings forth, the blanket of
fear covering this remarkable technical miracle can be lifted.
The first step to understanding genetic engineering, and embracing its
possibilities for society, is to obtain a rough knowledge base of its history
and method. The basis for altering the evolutionary process is dependant on the
understanding of how individuals pass on characteristics to their offspring.
Genetics achieved its .....

Creatine 2
Words: 1792 - Pages: 7.... Creatine serves as an energy reserve in muscle cells. Muscular contraction is powered by the breakdown of ATP (adenosine triphosphate) to ADP (adenosinediphosphate). When all the ATP is broken down, creatine phosphate in the muscle donates a phosphate group to ADP, and further energy reactions can occur. Creatine Monohydrate is a precursor to creatine phosphate. By supplementing with CM, CP levels in muscle apparently are maximized, and more muscular work can occur, since there are greater energy reserves to use. Approximately 95% of the body's creatine supply is found in the skeletal muscles. The remaining 5% are scatte .....

The Rain Forest - Example Of A Flourishing Ecosystem
Words: 2837 - Pages: 11.... of the rainforest is the soil upon which everything must
grow. Wherever rainforests are found, sandy red coloured soil can be found
as well. This soil contains few nutrients, which is why attempting to grow
any sort of crops would be futile. On top of this soil is a thin layer of
humus, which simply said is the compost made from the millions of dead
animals and plants of the forest. When things such as leaves and animals
die their remains are quickly broken down by a limitless amount of tiny
organisms. Some insects that do just this sort of thing include: beetles,
ants, termites and a host of others. With all of this death happening so .....
