Genetic Engineering And Its Future Impacts On Society
Words: 1731 - Pages: 7.... enhancing them to be better research specimens is not unethical. My reason behind this is that we don't just do research in order to infect and kill off the mice, we do it so one day we will have a cure for cancer and can save hundreds of thousands of human lives. Of course if you value the life of a mouse over a human then you would see differently. Some fear that this science is too powerful, granted we shouldn't let just anyone be able to modify bacteria, or the human genome, but we shouldn't let our fears blind us to the possible benefits of wide-scale genetic engineering.
Medical uses for this technology are virtually endless .....

Do UFOs Exist?
Words: 652 - Pages: 3.... professor has taken these "abductees" and puts them in a hypnotic trans.
Under hypnosis, sometimes weeping and shouting with agony and terror, they
recover buried memories of alien encounters. There has never been physical
proof of any abduction yet to be provided.
The Roswell incident is now generally regarded as one of the most
important UFO events in history, an extensive review of the UFO literature of
the 1950s finds no mention of it beyond the first press accounts in early July
1947. The only know reference to it as a UFO crash was in a 1955 lecture by
broadcaster and UFO enthusiast Frank Edward. Even in the 1960s the UFO
literat .....

The Future Of NASA
Words: 377 - Pages: 2.... system. The vacuum cleaner was
originally a great tool for astronauts in outer space. It is now a very helpful
tool for cleaning our homes. The pacemaker is a form of life-support on
spacecrafts, helping astronomers' hearts pump while they are outside of the
Earth's atmosphere. It is used, on Earth, for those who's hearts have problems
with pumping blood. Pens that write upside-down are used in space, where there
is no gravity and writing with pens would otherwise be impossible. They are
convenient tools on Earth when we are trying to write on vertical surfaces. A
zero-gravity training system is used to help astronauts become more co .....

Plate Tectonics
Words: 819 - Pages: 3.... ridges, deep sea trenches, island arcs, geomagnetic patterns, and fault patterns.
Mid-Oceanic Ridges
The mid-oceanic ridges rise 3000 meters from the ocean floor and are more than 2000 kilometers wide surpassing the Himalayas in size. The mapping of the seafloor also revealed that these huge underwater mountain ranges have a deep trench which bisects the length of the ridges and in places is more than 2000 meters deep. Research into the heat flow from the ocean floor during the early 1960s revealed that the greatest heat flow was centered at the crests of these mid-oceanic ridges. Seismic studies show that the mid-oceanic ridges e .....

Cloning: Background
Words: 1074 - Pages: 4.... who started cloning is Ian Wilmut (who led the group) (Recer). He cloned Dolly using the nucleus from the cell of its mother, and it had an exact genetic replica of its mother. This spurred arguments about cloning humans (Recer). After Wilmut hinted he may be repeating his experiment to silence the critics (Recer). Wilmut does not have the courage to repeat his experiment, also that the government will never allow him to repeate it.
Another reason for cloning is that before it was done and even now scientists think cloning could help produce genetic models of human diseases. With this researchers could understand them and develop cur .....

Fluoride
Words: 1173 - Pages: 5.... as
well as creating a tooth surface that is more resistant to decay. Community
water fluoridation is the adjustment of the amount of the beneficial trace
element fluoride found in water to provide for the proper protection of teeth.
Fluoridation has been widely utilized in this country since 1945. It does not
involve adding anything to the water that is not already there, since virtually
all sources of drinking water in the United States contain some fluoride.
Fluoridation is a form of nutritional supplementation that is not unlike the
addition of vitamins to milk, breads and fruit drinks; iodine to table salt; and
both vitamins and miner .....

Compatisome Of Upper And Lower Rock Shores Pools
Words: 3210 - Pages: 12.... the organisms of the upper pool when in a more benign environment.
The rock pools studied should both contain organisms specially adapted to live in the intertidal environment of the rock pools. The organisms need to be adapted to the microenvironment of the rock pool, as conditions are considerably different to those of a ‘normal’ marine environment. The rock pools spend some of their time completely submerged by the sea and other times exposed to the air. When exposed the organisms of the rock pool are part of a much smaller body of water than normal. This smaller volume of exposed water is likely to be changed significantly, mostly a .....

The Quicksilver

way for this- amalgams. Amalgams are alloys of mercury usually used to extract
elements from there various ores. Then, once the common metal is extracted
mercury is then separated through distillation.
Without mercury our world would be much different. We would have
different, if any, ways of determining temperature. Mercury is also used in
cleaning modern day swimming pools as "Mercury Vapor lamps" for sterilization.
Mercury can be used in both reconstructing and destroying life in water ways
depending upon the attention people give it. We would have no fast, economical
ways of cleaning large pools; no fast, .....
