The Incident At Columbine And The Media's Effect On Children
Words: 773 - Pages: 3.... and increased competition among various media outlets can feed this frenzy to replay searing images at the expense of the victims and communities still struggling to rebuild their lives. As a parent and grandparent, I am as troubled as anyone over the senseless tragedies that have occurred in schools over the past two years, and I fully understand the gravity and attention these scenes deserve. However, it does little but instill unwarranted fear in parents and students when such graphic stories are repeated over and over despite the telling fact that schools remain one of the safest places for our children to be.

Why People Feel Gun Control Is Unfair
Words: 542 - Pages: 2.... right "to bear arms". Opponents of gun
control, including the National Rifle Association, better known as the NRA,
argue that the "right To bear arms" is guaranteed in the second amendment
of the Constitution of the United States of America and licensing
restrictions penalize law-abiding citizens while in no way preventing
criminal use of handguns. It is also argued that by making it difficult
for guns to be bought and registered for the American public there is a
threat to the personal safety of American families everywhere.
However controlling the sale and distribution of firearms is
necessary because of the homicide rate inv .....

Another concern we deal with as Americans is education. Many
students drop out of school early. Many of the rest graduate knowing less
math, science, and history than other industrialized nations. Illiteracy
rates are high, and more and more students are graduating from school even
if they have been absent more days than allowed. To improve this,
committees have been organized will develop voluntary national and state
standards for education and authorize grants to develop model programs to
improve learning.
Employment is an issue that every American must deal with. In

Words: 958 - Pages: 4.... names being tagged
to people living together. Living together can be valuable a substitute for
marriage, a cur e-all for marital problems, and a solution to the problem of
frequent divorce.
A popular rationale for living together is that it is an ideal way to
have a "try out." This trial marriage is a result of the ever increasing divorce
rate. Many couples are afraid of marriage and decide to live together with the
intention to persue marriage if the temporary arrangement is successful. The

conflicting attitudes toward social activities, economic arrangem .....

Happiness
Words: 221 - Pages: 1.... tells a joke. If one finds
the joke funny, they laugh. This condition of happiness is the most temporary
one, for it only lasts a moment. No one will be affected deeply into their
emotions by a joke. It is more like a comical relief.
Another way of happiness is when something good happens to someone.
Maybe getting a good grade on a test or getting a raise at work. This kind of
happiness usually comes from personal accomplishment. One will be happy if they
know they did something good. They do not necessarily have to be rewarded to
feel happy. For example, some people find happiness in just living a good life,
a life of piety. .....

this area.
Mostly, attention is focused on factors such as the disinhibition
effect and cue-triggered aggression. Josephson aims to differentiate these
two areas and how they are affected by television violence. The overall
purpose of her study is to research the effect this violence has on boys'
aggression. Special emphasis is placed on factors such as teacher-rated
characteristic aggressiveness in the boys, timing of frustration (before or
after watching the televised violence, and violence related cues.
Josephson's study is detailed and technical. However, somet .....

At such times glare from the silverback is enough to restore the peace . A stare or nudge from the leader also keeps the males behaving . With infants , even the firmest leader is often easygoing . He allows them to pull his hair , punch him , and crawl all over him . Once when a little gorilla leaned against a huge silverback , the male grabbed a long-stemmed flower and tickled the infant with it . Babies are in fact , popular with the entire group . your interpretation might be simular to the dictionarys: “Stupidity: 1:Lack

insult but refer to something somewhat more in a serious manner. For
example, saying that someone is stupid, would mean that they are mentally

Is Television Good Or Bad?
Words: 382 - Pages: 2.... located. I think that this is an excellent use of television and more use should be made of it in education, because it offers many advantages to classroom teaching. The drama serials on television are neither entertaining or educational. These shows simply depict "real life" (in the broadest sense of the term) and therefore do not teach or entertain (otherwise life itself would be entertaining!)
I think that these programs should not be shown. Comedy programs, however, make viewers laugh, feel better, and make people generally happier. These programs should be encouraged, instead of the ‘real life’ dramas. Sports programs and broadca .....
