Racism In America
Words: 1824 - Pages: 7.... J. Simpson verdict and look
for any reason to take out their anger on the unlucky black victim” ( Kennedy
72). The only solution to this problem is to eliminate racism.
No one can deny the effect racism has had on America; so we must do our
best to stop it.. to end racism we must be able to understand each other. “ In a
recent poll, 11% of whites thought that blacks were lazy, yet 76% of blacks
think whites think they are lazy” (“color” 41). It is this kind of
misunderstanding that racism thrives on. If we work harder to understand each
other better, racism would have a harder time existing.
There is no doubt that we need to fi .....

Gangs: A Violent Reality
Words: 1527 - Pages: 6.... teens
in gangs will pressure peers into becoming part of a gang by making it all sound
glamorous. Money is also an crucial factor. A kid (a 6-10 year old, who is not
yet a member) is shown that s/he could make $200 to $400 for small part time
gang jobs. Although these are important factors they are not strong enough to
make kids do things that are strongly against their morals.
One of the ways that kids morals are bent so that gang violence becomes
more acceptable is the influence of television and movies. The average child
spends more time at a TV than she/he spends in a classroom. Since nobody can
completely turn off their minds, k .....

Immigration: Pro
Words: 1097 - Pages: 4.... to emigrate to the States for a period of ten years. It is so
infamous due to the fact that it was the first bill that discriminated against
any one particular race. Restrictions on immigration may seem to have been
eradicated from current history but that is an oversight. Even in the
"politically correct" society we live in today allows for these discrepancies,
for in the Immigration Act of 1990 which brought up controls for immigration.
Behind all these legal documents there are reasons that spurred these
causes. Certain prejudices against certain races or religion. The prejudices
were not always a color issue as the .....

Love In Today's Society
Words: 1383 - Pages: 6.... from my favorite magazine Men's Health on
the mistakes a man must avoid in order to please his lover. As we shall see,
the increased freedom is very interesting in our first representation to the
last. My goal is to show how love has changed. I hope to show what is accepted
in our society today, compared with only several decades ago.
Application
My sources run the gamut of ideas in the subject of love. I think
Auden's poem is the best representation of what has been termed “courtly love.”
This seems logical, since this Romantic Era type of love was a pre-cursor to
what we know as modern love. The author takes the tr .....

Gang Violence

he had nothing to do after school. Both he and G-Ball joined a gang by choice.
Keith, age 17 was forced into a gang. If he didn't join, he'd be hunted down
and killed by the gang members. When older family member already in a gang,
younger siblings are often forced in.
Many gangs use graffiti to show their power and to mark their turf.
"Everywhere you go you see graffiti." Professor Allen Walker Read of Columbia
University said, "The pen is mightier than the sword." Gangs in Parma are very
active with the pen. They "tag" their property buildings and houses everywhere.

Censorship Of Books: Freedom Of What?
Words: 1181 - Pages: 5.... it. If a parent feels that certain material is
inappropriate for children to see, then they shouldn't let their chi ldren
read it, but they shouldn't be able to decide what their neighbor's child
should and should not read. That would clearly violate our first amendment
right. The first amendment, in part states that Americans have freedom of
the press (to publish any material they want.) This also means that we can
access any of these materials. It doesn't mean we have the freedom to
control what others access, that would be referred to as communism.
In Triverton, Rhode Island a middle school class was assigned to

Justification Of Violence
Words: 999 - Pages: 4.... the right to fight back and prevent it from happening. Rape does not only
involve sexual assault; there is much physical assault involved, also. Many
women are held at gunpoint, knife, tied or beaten by their attackers, and this
is not right. Any woman under these circumstances should fight back and do what
they have to do to save themselves before it's too late. Other situations which
call for justifiable violence, in my opinion, are robbery at gunpoint and any
other type of unprovoked violence.
Other than self-defense, I do not believe violence should be tolerated at
any cost. Hitting children when they do something "wrong" is n .....

Conformity In Society
Words: 608 - Pages: 3.... break, the girl is converted into a clone, a fashionably wonderful clone. To live in our age and era, it is completely impossible to live and escape conformity. This silent epidemic affects society as a whole and almost every aspect of each individual.
Conformity is the tendency of an individual to change their thinking and behavior to the social norms. The most apparent effect of conformity is shown in fashion and style. I ponder whether the majority of our population like the clothes they wear because they actually like them, not just because everybody else is wearing them. I find it hard to believe that 9 out of 10 people ju .....

Freedom

Choice with wisdom is a pearl of great value. “TO” CHOICE = LIBERTY, so liberty is a choice, discretion, opportunity, alternatives, electives, prerogatives, options, variety, diversity, will, volition, the desire to do as we please, the to choose. Liberty tells that our choices are just and defensible because they do not impose disproportionately high costs on others to avoid the consequences of our choices. is the optimization of liberty, that is, the simultaneous maximization of choice and maximization of avoidibility.

They may start to believe that losing weight will make them happier, but no matter how much weight is lost, it is never enough, and they are never happy. Going through puberty early can be very upsetting, especially if the teenager is being subjected to sexual advances. These advances can be so upsetting it may cause them to feel ashamed of their bodies, fear becoming a woman, and they may try to make their bodies go back to a child like appearance through starvation.
