Early Marriages Are Usually Unhappy Marriages
Words: 904 - Pages: 4.... their respect for each other high above the troubled waters. The ones that did not last may have been so because the two people who were put together were entirely incompatible. Many stories have been heard but few have been learnt from.
Today some young people believe that they need to wait before they make that big commitment. Indeed there must be some just reason for them to conclude this. But as it is with many situations there is another side to this reasoning. And in recent studies many young people believe that if the mood is right that it makes it okay for them to get married. Strangely, this is not any surprise, since some of the .....

Gangs In America
Words: 831 - Pages: 4.... and crips, just to name a few. They show only the high life about it. The nice cars, the diamond rings, the women and the constant money. This is obviously appealing to the youth and the potential inductees to the gangs. However, with every good thing there also comes a bad side. The bad side is everything we don’t see. The life of crime, violence, and prison. Nobody really can understand that until they live it, and once they had lived it, it can sometimes be to late.
Now of course there are situations where kids join gangs because there is no other way. Often it happens that a teenager is forced to join a gang because he/she .....

Cigarette Companies Should Not Be Able To Advertise
Words: 515 - Pages: 2.... that comes to mind is the old Philip Morris commercial, that advertised smoking his brand would give you energy make you healthy, and give you a great feeling inside. Now, in today's age, this would be considered false advertising. But if cigarette companies could lie like that to people that didn't know any better, for they were uneducated on the subject, what other lows could the stoop to.
Another reason cigarette companies shouldn't be able to advertise is because they are making a prophet on killing people. Cigarettes are accountable for 430,700 deaths out of the 2 million that happen annually. Also many of the deaths are slow and pain .....

Gun Control And Freedom
Words: 757 - Pages: 3.... children have to needlessly die before America sees that we need stricter gun control laws?
To leave the issue of gun control untouched by the government is to say that the citizens of America are essentially apathetic when it comes to violence in our country. Especially with the amount of juvenile violence that has been on the rise ever since the 80's, legislators must take stronger action than ever before to show that these crimes simply cannot be committed with impunity. Whether this requires tougher sentences for juveniles or simply better education, the fact remains that guns are the vehicles by which juveniles are venting their ange .....

Censorship In Society
Words: 452 - Pages: 2.... and theaters will not play them.
Music is heavily censored, because some believe that music is the reason for most teen violence. They have stickers that are labeled ‘Explicit Lyrics’ pasted on them, or the bad word is simply ‘beeped’ out, along with that small portion of the song. It ruins the song. One band, the Insane Clown Posse was banned because of their lyrics, and their name. I may not list to the band, but I feel that others should be able to listen to them if they want to.
Books are normally banned instead of censored. Sometimes, the inappropriate spot in the book might be changed, but most of the time the b .....

and are seen as underachievers in a society "that has it easy." It is easy
for parents of the "X-ers" to believe this because all they've know is rise.
Rise in population, rise in American business, and rise in overall success.
These days all jobs are taken. The jobs out there are low paying and
demeaning to overqualified applicants. Left only to scrap by, it is not
unusual for an "X-er" to feel "Boomer Envy" described as the "envy of
material wealth and long-range material security accrued by older members
of the baby boom generation by virtue of fortunate births" (Generation X,
pg. 21). The fortunate thing is that .....

from radio to television. At the beginning of the fourth stage, known as The
Golden Age of Television, variety shows were the most popular program format.
Another television staple of this era was the western. In the late 1950's
action-adventure became popular.
Since the 1960's there has been a increase in violence in the media (television).
In 1968 censorship laws were relaxed in favor of a rating system that allowed
any type of subject matter to be filmed. This permitted Hollywood to specialize
in films featuring excessive violence. Many individuals and citizen groups have
expressed concern about the level of violenc .....

Violence On Television
Words: 528 - Pages: 2.... is probably the most important of all contextual factors for viewers as they interpret the meaning of what they see on television. When violence is presented without punishment, viewers are more likely to learn the lesson that violence is successful.
The negative consequences of violence are not often portrayed in violent programming. Most violent portrayals do not show the victim experiencing any serious physical harm or pain at the time violence occurs. For example, 47% of all violent interactions show no harm to victims, and 58% show no pain. Even less frequent is the depiction of any long-term consequences of violence. In fact, o .....

Gangs
Words: 1522 - Pages: 6.... in will pressure peers into becoming part of a gang by making it all sound glamorous. Money is also an crucial factor. A kid (a 6-10 year old, who is not yet a member) is shown that s/he could make $200 to $400 for small part time gang jobs. Although these are important factors they are not strong enough to make kids do things that are strongly against their morals.
One of the ways that kids morals are bent so that gang violence becomes more acceptable is the influence of television and movies. The average child spends more time at a TV than she/he spends in a classroom. Since nobody can completely turn off their minds, kids must .....
