Another type of used in conjunction with purchasing is economic . People can buy whatever they want when they want it. This is mostly often used when people decide to spend the extra to buy a sports car or a luxury item. Unfortunately this also has its limitations, because certain people donβt have the money to buy whatever they want. For example a person making $30,000 cannot buy a million-dollar house just because that is not realistic. Their income does not allow this type of purchase. People put some of these limitations on themselves by not making the amount necessary to buy what they want. In reality everyone cannot a .....

Down With Community Service
Words: 464 - Pages: 2.... one of the reasons that supports my disagreement to the
article.
Most young people do not have enough extra time to do community service.
I have been doing a survey about the subject matter for a few days, and I have
come up with some interesting results. It seems that eight out of ten students
that are about to graduate high school are planning to go to college after they
graduate. I also asked them about doing community service. Most of them said
that they would be getting a job, and they would not have time to do community
service. My survey has brought me to the conclusion that students who are
thinking about going to college sho .....

The Issue Of Premarital Sex
Words: 1033 - Pages: 4.... sex have risen primarily because of the complex
physical and emotional aspects of the sex act. The physical aspects
include excitement, foreplay, intercourse, and possible pregnancy or STD
transmission. The emotional aspects, however, are not so simple. These
three aspects have led to the views held by the different sides to the
issue.
The power that sex wields can be expressed by comparing it to fire.
Fire is good because it heats our homes, cooks our food, and strengthens
steel for building. Fire can also be bad because it burns down homes,
destroys God's creation, and is painful and scarring. Likewise, sex is
also good and/or bad. .....

Violence
Words: 856 - Pages: 4.... not normally do or intensify the
emotions that they feel. I believe that many violent acts are due to people
being under the influence of some type of narcotic or alcohol.
In a survey conducted in the University of Tennessee for the Department
of Health, the effects of drug abuse on violence were studied. It was found
that almost 56% of drinkers also used drugs while drinking. Interestingly,
white males were found to be more abusive than black males. The study showed
direct links from substance abuse to violence and crime.
With drug use and violence rising, a direct correlation can be seen.
Our society has created drug awareness progra .....

Children Are Easily Influenced
Words: 420 - Pages: 2.... influenced by people
they don't know. Although most children are taught not to talk to
strangers, we would be surprised how many actually do. Studies have shown
that both boys and girls do talk to strangers, but boys are more likely to
do what a stranger tells them than girls are. A lot of young boys are
easily deceived. Girls, on the other hand, are more cautious. Even when
girls are young, they are still weary of trusting people they don't know.
There are, of course, exceptions to every rule.
Finally, kids are most influenced by their parents and their
friends. Because friends and family members are people that kids trust,

"I Do" Or "Please Don't": Hawaii's Same Sex Marriages
Words: 1352 - Pages: 5.... defines marriage as:
"a) the state of being joined together as husband and wife, b)
the state of joining a man to a woman as her husband or a woman to a man as
his wife." Legally, however, marriage is more than just a statement of love.
Marriage comes with economic and legal benefits that one cannot receive alone.
For example, joint parental custody, insurance and health benefits, the ability
to file joint tax returns, alimony and child support, and inheritance of
property and visitation of a partner or a child in the hospital. In fact, the
Hawaii Commission on Sexual Orientation itself concluded that denial of marriage
license .....

Linking Media With Fitness Perceptions: A Study On The Affect Of Media On Fitness And Body Image
Words: 1179 - Pages: 5.... fitness. However a low score in the self-
acceptance scale in all three groups suggests a low self-concept within all
participants. This supports my statement that there would be a connection
between the fitness concept and the media packages as well as a constant self-
concept maintained by all participants.
In assessing personal attitudes it is often important to measure not only what
an individual feels towards others but also his/herself. Prior research
indicates this is especially important when measuring attitudes towards physical
issues. It has been found that opposing views may be held simultaneously by
individuals in regard .....

The Violent Reality Of Gangs
Words: 1474 - Pages: 6.... Many teens in gangs will pressure peers into becoming part of a gang by making it all sound glamorous. Money is also an crucial factor. A kid (a 6-10 year old, who is not yet a member) is shown that s/he could make $200 to $400 for small part time gang jobs. Although these are important factors they are not strong enough to make kids do things that are strongly against their morals.
One of the ways that kids morals are bent so that gang violence becomes more acceptable is the influence of television and movies. The average child spends more time at a TV than she/he spends in a classroom. Since nobody can completely turn off their minds .....

Traffic Control: The Need For Change
Words: 3508 - Pages: 13.... on the road.
Traffic accidents account for one of the major reasons that the current
techniques of traffic control need revision. Traffic jams, along with broken
cars and the lack of alternate routes, account for one half of the traffic
congestion in the United States (Clark 387-404). Although the number of traffic
accidents in the United States has slowly decreased over the past several years,
it is still alarmingly high. In 1990, approximately 7 deaths occurred for every
10,000 people in the United States due to traffic accidents (Wallich 14).
In addition, traffic jams also demonstrate the need for better methods
of traffic manageme .....

Society's Problems And My Role In Helping It
Words: 1206 - Pages: 5.... hurts the local
businessman whose customers are frightened away by the homeless man living on
the corner. It hurts those who have to commute to work via public transportation
and must deal with the panhandlers. It hurts those whose homes are burglarized
by the homeless man looking for money to feed his family. There is no isolated
problem in society and each problem has a ripple effect that eventually hurts
everyone. Even if only for selfish reasons, every individual should help to
solve the problems of society. A parallel that I can draw to further illustrate
my point is the team play of former NBA star Earvin "Magic" Johnson. When as .....
