Two Views On The Confederate Flagβs Controversial Issue
Words: 778 - Pages: 3.... War. The battle was unique in many respects. It came complete with spectators who carried picnic style lunches to enjoy while watching the fight. Soldiers of the Union Army wore uniforms of blue, gray and even red, but so did Confederates who were fighting for General Beauregard. To add to the confusion, both sides had flags that strongly resembled one another. Neither army could, at a distance, distinguish the Red, White and Blue of the Union's Stars and Stripes from the Confederacy's Stars and Bars (which had been patterned after the flag of the original thirteen American Colonies). All these similarities, and the need to establis .....

Existentialism
Words: 545 - Pages: 2.... life. Sartre is well known for the "Theatre
engage" or Theatre 'commited', which is supposedly commited to social
and/or political action.
On of the major playwrights during this period was Jean-Paul Sartre.
Sartre had been imprisoned in Germany in 1940 but managed to escape, and
become one of the leaders of the Existential movement. Other popular
playwrights were Albert Camus, and Jean Anouilh. Just like Anouilh, Camus
accidentally became the spokesman for the French Underground when he wrote
his famous essay, "Le Mythe de Sisyphe" or "The Myth of Sisyphus". Sisyphus
was the man condemned by the gods to roll a rock to the top of .....

Sex In The Net!
Words: 1102 - Pages: 5.... before has pornography been
so readily available. Through mail-order, at secret places around the schoolyard,
or simply down at the local newsagent or video store, pornography can be
purchased in any form or media. I know children, some as young as ten years,
who have an unlimited supply of pornography. They have been exposed to it from
an early age and it has become an addiction like smoking or drinking. Part of
the problem is that censorship laws are not enforced. Some newsagents will sell
a twelve year old, pornography, (legal age of 18) but will not sell them a
packet of cigarettes (legal age of 16 until June 1994). The obvious der .....

Race Relations

initiative's struggle to reconcile ethnicity and difference with the
notion of one American nation" (Green, 1998; PG) -- are pushing hard to
mend racial tension with a comprehensive program that is designed to bring
all races together. Will it work? Or will minorities look upon the effort
as nothing more than a Band-Aid covering a much larger issue? To some
extent, concepts such as affirmative action have their place in society,
yet they will do nothing to alter an individual's perception of one race or

Juvenile Delinquency
Words: 975 - Pages: 4.... a delinquent for breaking any one of a
number of laws, ranging from robbery to running away from home. But an action
for which a youth may be declared a delinquent in one community may not be
against the law in another community. In some communities, the police ignore
many children who are accused of minor delinquencies or refer them directly to
their parents. But in other communities, the police may refer such children to
a juvenile court, where they may officially be declared delinquents. Crime
statistics, though they are often incomplete and may be misleading, do give an
indication of the extent of the delinquency problem. The FB .....

Who's Right Is It Anyway?
Words: 538 - Pages: 2.... can be argued
from a populist view as well. It makes little sense to preserve life in an over populated world.
True, one less person here or there will not make a large dent. Yet if everyone who attempts or had
attempted suicide were not stopped, the impact would be recognized. Another popular argument
for stoppers, people who want to prevent suicide, is that nothing can be bad enough. Yet how do
they know this? They do not have to put up with the same stuff the suicide victim does everyday.
How could they possibly know what the potential suicide victim feels. Just as a severely burned
victim may wish to be allowed to die in peace, .....

I immediately reported the incident to my chain of command, wrote up my observations, then had to wait patiently to see what would happen. The result - nothing. Child Protective Services said the report was not submitted within 24 hours, so they couldn't do anything. We had another case that we reported just two weeks ago to Child Protective Services. Another five- year old was involved. The teacher noticed a bite mark on his cheek. She asked him what happened, and he responded "my dad bit me." The teac .....

School's Role In Our Life
Words: 858 - Pages: 4.... so high fees it does not give a chance to them coming from a family with a low income. Also, at college you have to buy your own books whereas in high school you borrow them from the school for a year. As they do for high schools, the government should pay for the books and then borrow them to students, as they do in high schools. Paying for the education you get is expensive, but many people have to pay even more. Many cities do not have colleges, so students who want to get a higher education have to move away to another city where they will be provided the education they need. This often involves paying for an apartment and for fo .....
