It was developed by the US Department of Defense's (DOD) research people in conjunction with a number of military contractors and universities to explore the possibility of a communication network that could survive a nuclear attack. It continued simply because the DOD, DOD's contractors, and the universities found that it provided a very convenient way to communicate (Wendell). The ARPANET was a success from the very beginning. Making Utilities For MS-DOS
Words: 4348 - Pages: 16.... uses can have
disastrous results. Think of it, an operating system is useless by itself, its
sole purpose is to provide services to applications. And who would be able to
develop applications for an operating system if the documentation for that
system is confidential and available only to the company that developed it?
Obviously, only the company that has developed that operating system will be
able to develop software for it. And this is a violation of the Antitrust Law.
And now I start having a suspicion that this is happening with Microsoft's
operating systems. It should be no secret to anyone that MS-DOS contains a lot
of undoc .....

The Internet: It Was To Be The Great Equalizer
Words: 1033 - Pages: 4.... and he faces a
steeper incline all the time. "The Internet is like a huge mall in the
middle of the Sahara desert," Phillip says. "Once you get there, which is
the first hurdle, all the competitors are lined up together, one next to
the other. So where do you go? You gravitate towards the brand names you
already know -- the biggies."
While Web site affordability has made it easier for companies like
Phillip's to establish an Internet presence, the same is true for his
competitors. Hence, a glut of small to medium-sized florists camp out on
the Internet and fight to draw consumer attention to themselves and away
from deep-pocketed and more .....

University of Miami, who teaches courses in computer ethics, "There's hardly a
business that's not using computers."1 This makes these questions all the more
important for today's society to answer.
There are also many moral and ethical problems dealing with the use of
computers in the medical field. In one particular case, a technician trusted
what he thought a computer was telling him, and administered a deadly dose of
radiation to a hospital patient.2 In cases like these, it is difficult to decide
who's fault it is. It could have been the computer programmer's fault, but
Goodman asks, "How much responsibility can y .....

Use Of Non-Lethal Weapons
Words: 257 - Pages: 1.... such as tasers are used in everyday life. Another problem in our
society is violence such as riots and fights. These things can be
controlled with sticky foam, water cannons, or rubber bullets.
The main reason to choose tasers and new-age weapons over guns, is
the fact that they are non-lethal. Every year about 500 police officers are
killed by guns. This kind of death doesn't need to happen. In 1983, 10,895
people were killed by firearms. In 1973 over 100 innocent children were
killed by guns, and every year that number increases. So, if you would like
these numbers to drastically decrease, we must choose smarter, and non-
