The Death Of A Criminal
Words: 1252 - Pages: 5.... It assures the execution of some innocent people. As a remedy for crime, it has no purpose and no effect (American Civil Liberties Union National Office 2-16-95)."
In 1972, the Supreme Court in Furman v. Georgia ruled that the death penalty for murder was unconstitutional. They also argue that the death penalty costs too much to carry out (Academic American Encyclopedia "Capital Punishment").
Yet, in 1976, the Supreme Court in Gregg V. Georgia declared the death penalty for murder is constitutional (AAE "Capital Punishment"). The death penalty is also fair and serves it justice -- surveyed police chiefs and sheriffs choose the death pe .....

Effects Of Television Violence
Words: 1625 - Pages: 6.... ignoring it
and hoping it will go away. Still others don't even seem to care.
However, the facts are undeniable. The studies have been carried out
and all the results point to one conclusion: Television violence
causes children to be violent and the effects can be life-long.
The information can't be ignored. Violent television viewing
does affect children. The effects have been seen in a number of cases. In
New York, a 16-year-old boy broke into a cellar. When the police
caught him and asked him why he was wearing gloves he replied that he
had learned to do so to not leave fingerprints and that he discovered
this on television. In Alabama, .....

Words: 1879 - Pages: 7.... father, Jack, was a millionaire box manufacturer. Leopold was a law student at the University of Chicago and was planning to begin studies at Harvard Law School after a family trip to Europe in the summer. Leopold, who was very interested in wildlife, had already achieved recognition as the nation’s leading authority on the Kirtland warbler, an endangered songbird. Leopold agreed with Friedrich Nietzsche, and believed that legal obligations didn’t apply to those who approached “the superman.” Leopold’s idea of the superman was his friend and lover, Richard Loeb.
Leopold and Loeb’s relationship was described by Clarence Darr .....

Gun Control: Simple Solution Or Ticket To Trouble
Words: 1587 - Pages: 6.... 2nd Amendment of the Constitution of the United States. The amendment reads:
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. (Hofstadter, 1970)
This brings us to the question: what is gun control and how far should our government go with these laws? You want to make the nation a safe place to live, but you also need to abide by the Constitution, which is the basis of our nation.
As you can probably expect, there are many arguments on the pro side that are sound and quite relevant. Many of them are merely statistics that will help you see wh .....

Letter Regarding Young Offenders And Threat Of Public Exposure
Words: 321 - Pages: 2.... troublemakers should be exposed and shamed. And I
agree with him 100%. The threat of public exposure will encourage young
offenders to face up to the effects of their crimes. This will also have,
hopefully, some effect on the parents too, who will be forced to be more
strict and control their children because, as the ministers believe,
parents are the key to reforming youngsters' behaviour. And that has to be
done before they grow up, because there will be no conrolling them then.So
no more anonymity, and no more "Blitz Boy" kind of nicknames which only
glorify the young troublemakers and make them look like heroes, but full
publication o .....

Gun Control
Words: 2480 - Pages: 10.... violence. There are concerns with the opponents of gun control, that the
professional criminal who wants a gun can obtain one, and leaves the average
law-abiding citizen helpless in defending themselves against the perils of urban
life . Is it our right to bear arms as North Americans ? Or is it privilege? And
what are the benefits of having strict gun control laws? Through the analysis of
the writings and reports of academics and experts of gun control and urban
violence, it will be possible to examine the issues and theories of the social
impact of this issue.

Our Prison System Sucks
Words: 501 - Pages: 2.... like a camp I was made to go to when I was young. Some
people in prison even have television, others treat it like a hotel. This
disgusts me! This doesn't sound at all like a prison. A prison is a place
where people are supposed to be punished. Not treated like guests. There
is a fin line between being punished and being over punished however. I'm
not saying that each person should be beaten daily, or made to stay in a
cell by themselves with no one to talk to for an eternity. The person
should be punished according to the crime. "An eye for an eye." This
brings me to the subject of capital punishment. I'm sure some of you are

Capital Punishment

That resulted in the narrowing down of the list of one hundred crimes to twelve, punishable by the death penalty in 1833, and in 1869 it was cut down yet again to just three: treason, rape, and murder because of violent nature of these crimes (Steele). These crimes, even today, are still viewed as violent and should be punished with the highest degree of discipline available to achieve justice.
After much public pressure, was suspended on a trial run in 1967. This proved to be ineffective, because even though the law stipulated that crime such as treason o .....

The above excerpt comes form the Charter of the Tribunal Article 6 section C,
which makes it quite clear that in general the "laws of war" are there to
protect innocent civilians before and during war.
It seems to be a fair idea to have such rules governing armed conflict in orde .....

Gun Control Isn't About Guns Its About Control
Words: 901 - Pages: 4.... people from becoming controlled by the Government.
Governmental Issues
Only sixty years ago Hitler took away the rights of Jews in Germany to bear arms. At that time it look like it was being done for the betterment of society. History has told us what followed. Taking away peoples abilities to defend themselves is the easiest way to subjugate, enslave or eradicate them.
Many times an over zealous government takes actions that cannot be justified. A good example of this is the Ruby Ridge Incident, where a mans wife and son were killed over a minor firearm offense.
Some States have enacted their own laws. Florida has aloud its citiz .....
