Reflections On The Bocelli Concert, April 15, 1999
Words: 827 - Pages: 4.... before the scheduled time. The place appeared uglier by the minute, and I kept wondering why half the seats were still empty at 8:00. However, the arena suddenly filled up, and the conductor took the stand approximately 20 minutes later than scheduled. When the concert began, I immediately came to realize how very lucky we were to have these seats. In fact, they were probably the best seats we could possibly have had because close-ups of the performers were projected onto three large screens during the entire concert.
The concert began with Overture to Norma, played by the San Diego Symphony Orchestra. Conductor Marcello Rota then ste .....

Industrial Music
Words: 561 - Pages: 3.... revolution is the band Nine Inch
Nails. Most people do not classify Nine Inch Nails as a band though. The
writer, producer, lead vocalist, keyboarder and guitarist of the band is Trent
Reznor. For the past two years, Trent has been the artist of the year in Spin
magazine and NIN has been the number two band of the year. In 1994, Nine Inch
Nails was announced MTV's band of the year. This was a great honor because MTV
spends most of it's time with rap and hip-hop. When NIN's first album came out
in 1989, it was mostly rock and roll with a techno twist, containing songs full
of depressing, suicidal lyrics. Then as the next two a .....

Best Of Van Halen: Volume I
Words: 978 - Pages: 4.... best of album. The album cover is simple and to the point. It consists of Van Halen’s signature logo; the VH connected to the circular swooping lines, in the middle. The black background sports the words VAN HALEN BEST OF on the top and VOLUME I on the bottom. There is not any fancy art work or anything. I think Van Halen is strong enough to let their music be the artwork for the album.
They took their hit songs from all of their records and put them in order by year. The first song, Evolution, incorporates a monstrous guitar solo by non other than the master himself, Eddie Van Halen. The next five tracks are not included in my fav .....

How The Beatles Changed Rock Music
Words: 618 - Pages: 3.... creative possibilities afforded by the
multiple track tape recording. They made rock music into music that were
produceable in studios but were not possible to produce in live performances.
They were the "Greatest show on Earth." They were the biggest concert
draws on Earth. Their music and lyrics changed the lives of a generation and
the generation that followed. Rock ‘n' roll was a mixture of blues and country.
Its rhythm seemed to have an amazing power over young people that couldn't be
understood by anyone born before 1940. John Lennon joined Paul McCartney, Pete
Best, and George Harrison to form the hottest group that was aro .....

SKA!

the Jamaican ska. The sound of ska is unique to Jamaica and is the original
"music of Jamaica." Its accented upbeat, bouncy rhythms, and colorful horn lines
made it perfect for dancing. Ska got its name from the sound made by the guitar
as it played on the off beats. This music served as the basis for the slower
rocksteady music style which later spawned the ever-popular reggae genre. Ska
music finally made its world debut in New York at the 1964 world's fair at the
Jamaican exhibition. By this time ska was an established musical genre. Ska
later emigrated to England where the English began to dev .....

Influence Of Music: Emotions And Effects
Words: 180 - Pages: 1.... listens to
rock&roll will dress outraged and may wear nose rings. Students that listen to
country may dress with a cow boy hat. A person that listens to oldies may dress
with clothes from the past.
Music can also influence the way a person thinks about somthing. People that
listens to rap may think that drugs should be legal. A person that likes country
may think that raggedy cars should be used until it possibly can't run anymore.
A person that listens to oldies think that the fashion should be the way that it
was when it was the fiftys.
This concludes the essay for " music and how it influences." Music can influence
the way a person thi .....

Here Comes The Story Of The Hurricane
Words: 442 - Pages: 2.... his case was taken to the Federal Court where he was given freedom.
One of Bob Dylan’s strongest protest songs is “Hurricane.” Rubin Carter wrote a book called 16th Round while he was in prison. He sent a copy of his book to Bob Dylan. Dylan was so impressed, he went to visit Carter in prison. Dylan took notes while interviewing Carter and was inspired to write the song “Hurricane.” The song went into every detail about the murders and Dylan says, “ Rubin Carter was falsely tried.” Dylan continues his story and adds his own commentary. He felt like the trial was a “pig circus” and “he never had a chance.” He .....

The first person they recruited was a freshman drummer named Jon “Fish” Fishman. One day, Trey walked by Fish’s room while he was practicing, and asked him to join the band. He agreed but he also played in another band at the time. Fish taught himself how to play the drums by locking himself in his room and trying to copy the sound of bands such as Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin. When he moved to college, he started to move toward jazz and hardcore. Now, all they needed was a bass p .....

Ralph Vaughan Williams: Symphony Number Five

First Movement : Preludio
From the very beginning, RVW puts the key signature of this movement into doubt.
The movement opens with a horn call in D, set against a firm base (or bass?) of
octave C's. Could it be that in the great traditions of British musical
'amateurism', RVW got his transposition wrong? Or is this a deliberate feature
of the music, intended to blur the tonality? Musicologists prefer the latter
explanation. This is by no means an unusual feature of his music, when he was
asked what the 4th symphony was about, RVW replied "It is about F-minor",
alluding to his sometimes hazy tonalities, often augmented b .....

The Drums
Words: 1691 - Pages: 7.... anything is added on. Measurements of
the drum is usually given in inches, the first measurement would be the
depth of the shell and the second measurement would be the diameter. Every
drum has a batter head wich is struck by either a stick or a foot pedal. If
a second head is used at the other end of the drum it is called a resonator
head. Lets start with the bass drum.
THE BASS DRUM
The bass drum is obviously the bass or low pitch drum in the set. The bass
drum is set on the floor with the batter of the drum facing vertically so
that a foot pedal may be used to hit the drum. The standard depth of a bass
drum shell is 14" and standard sh .....
