Antigone & Ismene
Words: 613 - Pages: 3.... the light of Creon's decree. Thus, from the start, Ismene is
characterized as traditionally "feminine", a helpless woman that pays no
mind to political affairs. Doubting the wisdom of her sisters plan to
break the law and bury Polyneices, Ismene argues:
We who are women should not contend with men;
we who are weak are ruled by the stronger, so that
we must obey....(346)
Once again Ismene's words clearly state her weak, feminine character and
helplessness within her own dimensions. Antigone, not happy with her
sisters response chides her sister for not participating in her crime and
for her passivity, saying, " Set your o .....

Hamlet: Chivalry
Words: 1913 - Pages: 7.... cavalier. Webster's defines cavalier as "a
gentlemen trained in arms and horsemanship." These are also synonymous
with knight. An interesting contradiction though is that the English
etymology of the word knight is trusted servant. This comes form the
Anglo-Saxon word "cnyht" (De La Bere 35). The idea of a knight being a
servant does not fit most people's ideas of knighthood or chivalry, but in
essence that is what a knight is. A knight's duty is always to his king.
The duality of these roles is what makes chivalry unique. (Barber 9).
So where did chivalry get its start? Many believe it started with
the barbaric Huns or the Roma .....

By dying he taught his kids that not only he is not a sell out but he also
taught them that he stood up for what he believed in. John Proctor is not
a man known to go to church often, but he must of remember this quote from
the bible: "No one has love greater than this that someone should surrender
his soul in behalf of his friends"(John 15:13). This quote means that

where most of the key events happen. Along with the plot there is also
extensive amounts of setup that occur within the dialogue which key the
audience in on the morals and values of the characters. Marilyn French is
completely accurate when she states that "Everything about the play hangs on
the first two scenes not just the plot but the values as well" (Shakespeare's
Division of Experience, 226).
The opening scenes of King Lear do an immaculate job of setting up the

glimmer of optimism, determination, and hope in Proctor's voice. The reader
feels that he will fight till the end. "It is hard to give a lie to dogs.",
