Kangaroos
Words: 1056 - Pages: 4.... coastal regions but short-haired and dark gray inland. The red kangaroo, which is found throughout Australia's interior grasslands, is the largest and most powerful species. A male may attain a head-body length of 1.5 m; have a tail 1 m long; stand 2 m tall; and weigh 90 kg. A gray kangaroo can clear more than 9 m (30 feet) at a bound and attain a speed of 48 kilometres per hour. The wallaroo, a smaller and stockier animal, may be dark gray to pinkish brown; it lives in rocky country throughout Australia except Victoria. These large kangaroos travel in groups (mobs) under the leadership of the largest male ("old man," or "boomer"), whic .....

Management Techniques For The Red-Cockaded Woodpecker On Federal Lands
Words: 2093 - Pages: 8.... borealis, Global Positioning System, Geographic Information
System, cavity trees, cavity restrictors
The red-cockaded woodpecker (Picoides borealis) is an endangered species
that inhabits pine forests in an historical range from Texas to the Atlantic
coast (Jackson, 1986; Reed et al., 1988). Picoides borealis nest in clans or
family groups that usually consist of one breeding pair and 2 non-breeding male
helpers (Jackson, 1986 ). This group establishes and defends a territory that
includes foraging habitat and nesting "cavity trees" (Copeyon et al., 1991;
Jackson et al., 1986; Rossell and Gorsira, 1996). Red-cockaded woodp .....

Nuclear Power
Words: 1803 - Pages: 7.... since several years new ways of disposing and
storing these wastes have been developed so they may no longer be harmful.
A very advantageous way of storing radioactive wastes is by a process
called 'vitrification'.
Vitrification is a semi-continuous process that enables the
following operations to be carried out with the same equipment:
evaporation of the waste solution mixed with the additives necesary for
the production of borosilicate glass, calcination and elaboration of the
glass. These operations are carried out in a metallic pot that is heated
in an induction urnace. The vitrification of one load of wastes
comprises of the follow .....

Polymers
Words: 397 - Pages: 2.... polymer has three times the strength of tempered steel and is being used in bullet proof vests. Another composite will be used to fasten together the sections proposed space stations. have also been used in cars, including the Chevrolet Camaro and the Pontiac Fiero.
New are being created with more strength and flexibility by combing two chemically different and producing a block copolymer. Combinations of block co and composites and intended for use in booster rockets and in materials of Earth-orbiting installations.
Most common are usually solid, but a new class of is being introduced in a liquid crystal state. Although th .....

Biology 2
Words: 516 - Pages: 2.... was that "the wing is expected to have design features that allow both powered flight and the generation of violent jumps." The Demodus rotundus demonstrates intricate movements including flight-initiating jumps and because of this the wing is expected to be engineered for the ability to jump (to initiate flight) and also powered flight.
The prediction that was made for this experiment was that this experiment would follow the results that were observed by Altenbach in 1979, and 1988. That is, that the bat would indeed initiate its flight with a jump.
The tests that were imposed were the use of a force platform with twelve transducing .....

Mars 4
Words: 500 - Pages: 2.... surface. The dark areas are thought to have rocks that are simmilar to terrestrial basalts, the surface is even more weathered and rusted. The brighter areas seem to have similar but even more weatherd and rusted material that apparently contain more fine, dust-sized particles than they do the dark reigons. The mineral scapolite, which is rare on Earth, seem's wide spread; it may serve as a store for carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.
Bright caps, apparntly made of frost or ice, mark the planet's polar regions . their seasonal cycle has been followed for almost two centuries .Each Martian autumn, bright clouds form over correct pole.Bellow what .....

Dna 3
Words: 3302 - Pages: 13.... form a pearl necklace). The names of these four bases are adenine, cytosine, guanine, and thymine. Conventionally the bases are abbreviated as A, C, G, and T (respectively) for simplicity reasons. At the smallest level, DNA is organized into a double helix. The DNA helix is then repeatedly coiled to allow more of it to fit into a compact space. This helix replicates and passes on its information to the body's cells.
In humans, all the DNA is packaged into 46 separate molecules called "chromosomes." The chromosomes each contain thousands of genes, with each gene specifying how to make a particular protein necessary for cellular function. Sc .....

"How Is Helium Produced?"
Words: 1143 - Pages: 5.... to build
and operate a large-scale helium extraction and purification plant. From 1929
until 1960 the federal government was the only domestic helium producer. In 1960,
Congress amended the Helium Act to provide incentives to natural gas producers
for stripping natural gas of its helium, for purchase of the separated helium by
the government, and for its long-term storage. With over 960 million cubic
meters (34.6 billion cubic feet) of helium in government storage and a large
private helium recovery industry, questions arise as to the need for either the
federal helium extraction program or the federally maintained helium stockpile.
In a .....

The Destruction Of The Ozone Layer
Words: 765 - Pages: 3.... rays from the sun are
absorbed. The O3 molecule is very reactive and it bonds easily with other
molecules it the atmosphere. When and oxygen atom from the ozone reacts
with a chloride ion from chlorine monoxide, the ozone molecule is destroyed.
So chlorine monoxide is an ozone destroyer. There is always a certain
amount of chlorine monoxide in the atmosphere.
It is important to remember that ozone is constantly being created and
destroyed in the atmosphere. The amount of ozone in the atmosphere is based
on these reactions. There are many factors that influence the amount of
reactions like season, latitude, and solar cycle. Because of these .....

Lenz's Law And Faraday's Law Of Induction
Words: 667 - Pages: 3.... the magnet decreases; so the magnetic field, and therefore
the flux, through the coil increases. The magnetic field of the magnet points
upward. To oppose this upward increase, the field produced by the induced
current must point downward. Thus Lenz's law tells us that the current must move
by the use of the use of the right hand rule. If the flux decreases, so the
induced current produces an upward magnetic field that is "trying" to maintain
the status quo.
Let us consider what would happen if Lenz's law were just the reverse.
The induced current would produce a flux in the same direction as the original
change; this greater chan .....
