Each time he seems to be referring to the subject of this metaphor as -- someone who discriminates against others, is a hypocrite about something, or has manifestations of conformity (Corbett, 1997). She is a strong willed woman, doing what she must, coming out as the victor in the end. Hedda, however, comes out quite differently. Hedda’s fear of scandal really prevents her from having any strong hold on the situation that will turn out successfully. This is proven in the end when Hedda commits suicide-she has lost control and is not strong enough to handle the ensuing scandal. .... The hairball's signifigance to the novel is seen in both the characters of Jim and Huck. Jim is an uneducated slave who does not have much knowledge. He is very ignorant and is easy to beleive things things. Not only does his beleif that this hairball has magic spirits, he is also fooled by Huck many times during the novel. You would think because of him being an uneducated slave, and Huck being the white boy who has had some schooling, that their beleifs in this superstitous hairball would differ. This is not true as seen when Huck is the one that comes to Jim for the powers of the Hairball. Huck wanted to know what his father, Pap, was go .....

Instead of getting angry and striking back against society and the white townsfolk, Tom went through the trial without getting aggravated because he was falsely accused, and conducted himself as a gentleman. Tom's actions depict the kind of man he truly was, not one to rape and beat a helpless teenager, but one to conduct himself as a civilized human being. I strongly feel that this is a remedy that Harper Lee offers on the subject of dealing with everyday injustice. Robert Bork admitted that this law did not make sense, especially in the ability of government officials to enforce the law. Yet, Bork disagreed with the method used by Justice Douglas to overturn the conviction of two doctors distributing information on condoms. Bork felt that Douglas's liberal use of penumbras to create a zone of privacy was an excessive use of judicial power. Keating said that if you became what people wanted you to be then you would have them right where you want them. Keating must have wanted them playing with his soul then. Because when a person becomes what people want him to be he opens up his soul to be influenced. When a person gives pieces of your soul to too many people he is left with an empty shell. In effect that person becomes a virus, living off the souls of others but never re-obtaining a soul for himsel .....
