Radio Waves
Words: 803 - Pages: 3.... by their wavelength, which is determined by the distance (by meters)
that is traveled from the crest of one wave to the crest of the next.
Radio frequencies are measured in units called kilohertz, megahertz, and
gigahertz. (1 kilohertz = 1000 hertz : 1 megahertz = 106 hertz, 1 gigahertz =
109 hertz). All radio waves fall within a frequency range of 3 kilohertz, or
3000 cycles per second to 30 gigahertz. Within the range of frequencies, radio
waves are further divided into two groups or bands such as very low frequency (
VLF 10-30 kHz ), low frequency (LF 30-300 KHz), medium frequency ( MF 300-3000
KHz), high frequency ( HF 3-30 MHZ) and .....

Nuclear Energy 2
Words: 2921 - Pages: 11.... and above that there is a meter thick floor composed of iron, barium, serpentine, concrete, and stone. The exploding steam fires the floor up like shrapnel. The metal plate goes through the four foot thick concrete roof like butter and reaches and altitude of sixty meters. You can hear ripping, rending, wrenching, screeching, scraping, tearing sounds of a vast machine breaking apart. L. Ray Silver, a leading author who covered the disaster at Chernobyl, said that within the core, steam reacts with zirconium to produce that first explosive in nature’s arsenal, hydrogen. Near-molten fuel fragments shatter nearly incandescent graphite, .....

Organ Cloning: The Future Of Our Lives…
Words: 902 - Pages: 4.... whether or not we have the right to clone. We are all guaranteed rights by the fact that we are human beings. Those rights include the right to pursue areas of scientific study, and also the right to live. They could have argued the fact that man was not meant to walk on the moon. If they did, and the program did not succeed, then we would not have the technology that we have today. Cloning organs can only yield new technologies that will be beneficial to society.
Organ cloning is something that would be extremely beneficial to society. Imagine the ability to "create" a liver for James Earl Ray. He was the man that was accused in th .....

Gravity
Words: 1275 - Pages: 5.... was repeated on the moon, the hammer and the feather hit the ground at the exact same time. This is due to
the fact that the moon has no atmosphere. Therefore, air resistance doesn't exist on the moon. Also, the amount of air resistance on an object depends on the speed, size, shape, and density of the object. The larger the surface area of the object, the greater the amount of air resistance on it. This is why feathers, leaves, and sheets of paper fall more slowly than pennies, acorns, and crumpled balls of paper.
There is another legend that states that when Newton was lying against a tree in an orchard, he was struck on the head .....

Reforestation
Words: 795 - Pages: 3.... with faster-growing young trees". A new
study of young and old forests says how this is in fact not true. Loggers have
said that new trees pull the carbon dioxide better than old trees, and this may
seem true, but it is not. There is one point being overlooked from all of this.
The older, larger trees can store much, much more carbon dioxide than a new tree
could. By cutting and burning these magnificent seasoned trees, the CO2 is
being released back into the atmosphere. These releases of carbon dioxide add
up in our surroundings, only to intensify Global Warming. Although this shows
what happens when one burns and cuts down old fore .....

Homo Aquaticus?
Words: 2003 - Pages: 8.... evolutionary innovations, because they generally resemble other ape
and monkey brains. This implies that the human brain changed a lot after the
human/chimp evolution. With the exception of the olferactory bulb (scent), all
brain structures are larger in humans than in apes. The neocortex (part of the
cerebral cortex), for instance is over three times larger than in chimps, even
though chimps and humans are pretty close to equal in body weight.
Each side of the brain is diveded by the central sulces into independant
halves. Just before the central sulcus lies the post-central cortex, where the
opposite body half (right side for left .....

The Cambrian Period
Words: 231 - Pages: 1.... with the firs t appearance of
abundant fossils especially Trilobites, which characterizes a succeeding point
in time. During the Cambrian Period the lapetus Ocean appeared, the
predecessor of the Atlantic Ocean, which separated the young North American and
Eurasian continents. Also Gondwanaland was in the final stages of development.
Gondwanaland was a very large continent made up of what is now South America,
Africa, Arabia, Madagascar, India, Australia, and Antarctica. Large shelled
organisms first emerged during the Cambrian. Also Earth¹s atmosphere contained
the same amount of oxygen as it does now, enough to sustain the .....

Carbohydrates
Words: 383 - Pages: 2.... structure. The alpha glucose, which is the base of many polymers, is an energy source in organisms.
Although glucose is the common transport sugar for vertebrates, sugars are often transported in other organisms as disaccharides. Sucrose, commonly called cane sugar, is the form in which sugar is transported in plants from the photosynthetic cells to other parts of the plant body. Sucrose is composed of the monosaccharides glucose and fructose. In the synthesis of a disaccharide molecule from two monosaccharides, a molecule of water is removed in the process of forming the new bond between the two monosaccharides. This type of chemical reacti .....

Haloes Forecast Storms
Words: 520 - Pages: 2.... the layer of
cloud, sunlight is striking and passing through the sides of randomly-
oriented ice crystals. As the sunlight passes through each crystal, the
light changes direction, or refracts. The radius of the hale depends on
the amount of change in the direction of the sun's light. Usually this is
22 degrees. Since the sun is 1/2 of a degree across, the radius of the
halo is 44 sun-widths. Occasionally you may see a second halo at 46
degrees from the sun (that is, with a radius of 92 sun-widths). This is
produced by sunlight passing through both the side and bottom of each
crystal. Moonlight will also produce a halo, around the mo .....

Cancer 2
Words: 1077 - Pages: 4.... chromosomes contain proteins, some of which cover the genes that are not "turned on" at the particular time.
The original genetic information, stored in a coded form DNA, is carried out of the nucleus by RNA and then translated into proteins by ribosomes. 70% of oncogenes are located in the weak points of the chromosomes-hereditary regions where the DNA molecule may break or its portions may be rearranged into new combinations. Actually most of the times, the nucleus and the DNA are constantly exposed to substances that may alter the genes. But these alterations are almost always prepared by intricate mechanism with the function of prevent .....
